PICTORIAL NARRATIVE REPORT ON

DISTRICT ORIENTATION ON BEGINNING READING

Reading is a fundamental skill in the educative process of every learner. It is also

an essential factor in child’s development as he/she continues in his/her life-learning
journey. This is the main reason why the Department of Education is continuously
supporting and promoting, “No Read, No Pass.” According to results of recent studies
though close monitoring, there is an increasing number of non-readers and syllabic pupils
within the division that is quite alarming.

So with this, the Division of Bataan through the joint efforts of our Educational
Program Supervisors in English and Filipino conducted a division training on Beginning
Reading about different strategies, approaches and techniques that will easily facilitate
learning how to read. Participants who attended this training are also responsible to
undertake it with their own district respectively.

The Orion District headed by Mrs. Perlita S. Pareῆo, District English Head
Coordinator and Mrs. Myrna B. Torres, District Filipino Head Coordinator maneuvered a
half-day seminar on Beginning Reading last February 14, 2017 at 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.,
catering participants of fourteen schools of teachers from Pre-Elem to Grade III. The
program started by rekindling the sense of nationalism of Bilolo E/S followed by
expressing gratitude to Almighty Father by Sabatan E/S and acknowledging the presence
of everyone and the warm welcome remarks of the school head of the host venue. It was
highlighted by Mrs. Minerva P. Rillo Ed. D., who conveyed her vision and mission for Orion
District regarding “reading” was very transpired in her message. Hats off to the two
facilitators namely Mrs. Rhoda D. Santiago who tackled Teaching Beginning Reading and
Different Techniques and Strategies on Reading and to Mrs. Sally B. Clemente who
facilitated Alpabetunog, Marungko Approach and Soundabet Program.

It was indeed a fruitful and meaningful day to everyone knowing something new
that they can apply with their own pupils who have struggles in reading.
