 Suggestion
What is suggestion? Suggestion is something that we give or someone gives to others
who have problems or difficulties. In essence, suggestions are used to provide solutions /
suggestions to others.
Usually the suggestion sentence uses help words as follows:
❖ I suggest you to …
❖ Maybe you should …
❖ Let us …
❖ Maybe you want to …
❖ What if …
❖ Don’t you think that …
❖ How about …
❖ I think …

Example sentence suggestion

• Let’s go to the library.

(Ayo pergi ke perpustakaan)

• Let’s go to movies

(Ayo menonton film)

• Why don’t you do your homework before leaving?

(Mengapa Anda tidak melakukan pekerjaan rumah Anda sebelum pergi?)

• We could eat at home today.

(Kita bisa makan di rumah hari ini)

• What about eating at the new place?

• How about going to Sam’s place first?
• I suggest that we can call it a day
Example expressions accept suggestion
• Yes, it’s a great idea.
• I agree.
• It sounds great.
• Yes, let’s do that/it.
• Super! OK! All right!

Look at the dialogue below!

Fiki: What are you doing, Muth?
Muth: I'm completing a math assignment from Mrs. Azia. This is very difficult, huh.
Fiki: Why don't you ask Mrs. Hidayati to help you?
Muth: Yes, it’s a great idea.

Muth: Where do you want to go on vacation?

Chandra: I'm going to Toraja
Fiki: Huh, I'm confused about where to go for a vacation
Muth: What if we go to sebatik, Fiki? We can go for a walk while eating durian there
Fiki: Yes, let's do it.

From some of the dialogues above, it can be concluded that:

✓ the word in blue is accepting suggestion
✓ the word in green is reject suggestions

What is offer? Offer is the activity of offering goods or services to others.
Look at the dialogue below!
Fiki: Huh, I am very tired
Muth: Do you want ice tea?
Fiki: Yes, please.

Muth: This book is very heavy

Fiki: Let me help carry the book
Muth: Oh, thanks

Fiki: What are you doing, Muth?

Muth: I'm waiting for my father
Fiki: Can I help you go home
Muth: Of course. Thank you

Bold words above include offer. Why? because that sentence contains an offer. Usually
the offer is indicated by the use of the following sentence:

• Can I....?
• May I....?
• Shall I....?
• Would you...?

Types of accepting offers:

• Thank you,I appreciate your help

• Yes,Please.
• Ye,Of course.

Types of declining offers

• No,Thanks you,
• It’s okay,I can do it my self.
 • Don’t worry,I can do it my self.

Those are some brief explanations of the suggestions and offers. Hopefully
after reading it, we will become more understanding and like english. For all the
