Description Guide for your grade level at

Choice Sheet Completion:

1. Please have the choice sheet completed and returned to your elementary counselor by February 19th (you
can turn it in early). Use pencil for selecting courses. If you do not complete a choice sheet, the counselor
will make your selections for you.
2. Please print all information clearly. No nicknames. Use the address where you are currently residing. If
you are planning to move, note your new address at the bottom of the page.
3. Pre-AP vs. Regular descriptions for Math are included in the Bailey Course Description Guide.
4. Bailey Course Showcase Night is Tuesday, February 11th from 6:30-7:45pm at Bailey. Be sure to speak
to teachers that night about core and elective course options and recommendations.
5. Please choose courses very carefully! Courses are designed and teachers allotted according to initial
student choice sheet selections so courses may fill up and changes may not be available. A verification of
the courses students selected will be sent home for review for errors. This verification page is not the
finalized schedule and does not guarantee placement in the courses listed. Course selection changes must
be requested by March 27th. Due to scheduling limitations and teacher allocation, students may not get
their top elective choices. Priority goes to 8th then 7th grade students. Any differences in the final schedule
(handed out the first day of school), that are due to scheduling limitations, do not constitute a scheduling
error and will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Late course changes may be requested in writing/email
within the 1st week of school. A request must be approved by the principal, is subject to class availability,
and does not guarantee a change.
6. Bailey has a traditional bell schedule with 8 classes meeting each day. All students will participate in an
advisory class as 1 of their 8 classes This class includes time for homework, tutoring, and social/emotional (SEL) lessons.

Elective Information:
7. Keep in mind that some 7th/8th grade elective courses require a prerequisite course and/or teacher
approval. A list of prerequisites can be found at the end of the course description guide at
baileycounseling.weebly.com/general-class-information.html.
8. Band and Orchestra instrument selection will be Monday, February 17th, 8:30am-2pm at Bailey.
9. Students are required to take 2 semesters of a physical education class in 6th grade. This would be their PE
or Dance class paired with Functional Fitness. PE waivers are only available for 7th/8th grade and require
district approval.
10. Students may not get their top elective choices if a class is filled. 7th/8th graders get priority. Most 6th
graders will have 4 core classes, reading, PE or dance, functional fitness, advisory, & 1 yearlong fine art
elective. (Some students may only have one semester of reading paired with one other semester-long
elective.)

High School Credit Course:

11. Keyboarding is a required elective course at the middle school level and students are expected to be
proficient in keyboarding prior to 9th grade. Priority goes to 8th then 7th graders. Keyboarding is a high
school elective credit and this course requires additional homework and study time. Students who are not
passing Keyboarding at any time after the 1st 6 weeks will be moved to the middle school level so their high
school GPA will not be affected.
