CHECKLIST and STEPS for SCHOLARSHIP SUBMISSION

1. Check your eligibility for the scholarship. The following are requirements for eligibility:
a. Graduating senior in 2020
b. Minimum SAT score is 1,000 (Math/Reading) or ACT Composite score of 22
c. Academic aptitude or achievement (3.0 or greater CUM GPA)
d. Economic need
e. Ability to relate to and work with people of all ages
f. Commitment to service, with special interest in teaching children and youth
g. Participation and leadership in school and community activities
2. Complete application online at https://www.frea.org/scholarships/. It cannot be handwritten and
printed.
3. A completed application must include:
a. Family Income
b. Community Service Info
c. Leadership Info
d. 2 References with full contact info
e. Single page typed essay (Can be uploaded with the application)
f. Recommendation Letters (Can be uploaded with the application)
g. Official high school transcript with ACT or SAT scores circled (Can be uploaded with the
application) In the event the ACT/SAT scores are not printed on the transcript, a student
applying for this scholarship must supply these scores. If the school needs to send
transcripts to Florida Retired Educators Association (FREA) directly, that is acceptable. Our
address is below.
4. Submit your application by January 20, 2020. All transcripts and supporting paperwork, not
available to be uploaded with application, must reach the FREA Office by January 31, 2020.
5. You will be contacted through your high school Guidance Department to schedule an in-person
interview with the Duval County Unit of FREA.
