in Financial Service Sector (with the idea of :Mobile Banking” to enhance its growth in Pakistan Market. To implement this
strategy telenor need some sort of Financial Model that can support there idea of Mobile Banking. For that they have
started meeting with various banks, finally they came across one bank with the same strategy, that is Tameer
Microfinance Bank (TMFB). They now have three types of Mobile Banking Models: Bank-Led . Telco-Led. Partnership. 4

Banking Models : Bank-Led . In this system bank will provide the Financial service management at the back end as ell as
manage the cash distribution network. Telco-Led . Telco will manage the cash distribution system and own and maintain
electronic record of value/amount. Bank where the back end customer account is maintain are not liable to maintain any
record. Partnership . In this model, bank partnerships with a specific telco who have received no objection certificate from
Central Bank. The telco and partnership bank would maintain parallel distribution system and medium to transit. 5

Telenor Pakistan SWOT Analysis:Telenor Pakistan SWOT Analysis Strengths : Telenor is a multinational company.
Telenor covers a total of coverage area in more than 3000 cities, towns and highways throughout Pakistan. Being a
multi-national company telenor has got good fund backing. Weaknesses : Telenor has low market share as compare to
Mobilink and Ufone. Less network coverage as compare to Mobilink. 8

Telenor Pakistan SWOT Analysis:Telenor Pakistan SWOT Analysis Opportunities : A number of opportunities exist in
the voice telecommunication space. Market size is the biggest ever opportunity in Pakistani telecom sector. Inefficiency
and poor network service of other networks. Threats : Unstable political Conditions. MNP Mobile Number Portability. New
companies entrance in the telecommunication market. 9

Telenor Pakistan:Telenor Pakistan Critical Success Factors Critical Failure Factors Introduction of Payment method in
Pakistan by the name of “EASYLOAD”. Telenor Group has previously launched Mobile banking models in the past
through its Asian Associates. Mobile banking regulations have not been defined and passed through Central Bank of
Pakistan. Telenor group have yet not decided to which model they will exercise after 2008 SBP sanction the guidelines,
which have taken first mover advantage from them. 10

Porter Five Forces:Porter Five Forces 11

Slide12:Intensity of Competition Among Rivals TELENOR has strong rivals in telecommunication sector of Pakistan like
MOBILINK and U-FONE. In 1994 there were only two competitors (Paktel and Instaphone) now this figure has jumped to
six. All these companies are providing similar services with the same capabilities. Although it has enhanced its
investment in last few years and working hard to expand its network. To get competitive advantage TELENOR offered
many strategies regarding features and price of products. For example first time in Pakistan Telenor has has introduced
the “EASY LOAD” services he was sole provider of the mentioned service in Pakistan. 12

Slide13:2. Bargaining Power of Buyer Although subscribers are not concentrated, not purchase in bulk but still can easily
switch for better quality, coverage and rates. In this context subscribers’ position is strong. Company by all means will
consider the wishes of its users. From the data 2005 to 2009 we can check that Telenor’s subscribers has increased in
each year although the rate of growth of Mobilink and Ufone has shown declining trend due to the presence of Telenor
and other competitors’ services. Table presents a comparison of the number of subscribers of Telenor with its rivals: 13

Slide14:3. Threats from Substitutes Presence and easy availability of substituted products is a great threat for the
successful survival of any organization since it can enforce the company to cut the price of its product. For Telenor
product substituted products are fixed line and wireless. These two products are offering by many companies like
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), World Call,
Wateen, Great Bear etc. For substituted products Telenor has major threat from PTCL that has 3,387,495 fixed line and
1,300,121 wireless local loop subscribers up to March, 2009(http://www.pta.gov.pk) 14

Slide15:4. Potential Entry of New Competitors Since current telecom companies are too much strong not only from
technology and experience view point but also involve in heavy capital investment so chances of success for new
entrants are very limited. Mobilink has its own market position, U-fone, Warid and Telenor one by one entered in the
Market , it make cut throat competition for TELENOR and other hand it improve its performance by proposing sms and
call packages. But now the market is fully saturated and there is no room for new investors. So the company has no
danger of further new entry but it has to be focused on the existing enemies. 15

Slide16:PEST ANALYSIS POLITICAL Political factors are those which are directly controlled by the political parties and
Government they could be able to influence directly in any situation or in any industry. In Pakistan Political environment
was not stable that is the major threat for telecommunication industry In Pakistan government dictates the pricing
regulations so that influence the smooth working of the telecommunication industry . In Pakistan Government is changing
the policies very rapidly so that creates instability . Government of Pakistan had developed Pakistan telecommunication
Authority (PTA) so that helps in the establishing Business in Pakistan in more efficient manner. Economic Analysis
Economic factors are directly controlled and influenced by the financial institutions like State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) SBP
provides economic soundness and financial aids to survive in the time of crises . In Pakistan Although an proper
Institution for telecommunication sector working (PTA ) In Pakistan all the financial institutions are controlled by
government rather than the head of financial Institution State Bank of Pakistan (SBP ). Currently government has
increased the taxes on the telecommunication sector so that reduces the income of the telecommunication sector 16

Slide17:SOCIAL ANALYSIS Social analysis is directly attached with the people and with the culture in which they are
working. Pakistani people are more social so they have family system and they want to remain in contact with other
through any means so that is the opportunity for telecommunication sector to capture the feelings of the people . Some
campaigns to educate people and develop the positive behavior in that social culture. Telenor is taking initiative in this
regard. AJ NAE BOLO GY TO KAL BUGHTOO GY { KhamoshiKa Boycott} ( Djuice ) KRO MUMKIN (Telenor)
TECHNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS Telecommunication technology is changing the behavior of the people and providing them
opportunities to get the bright future. Due to latest technology the cost of telecommunication industry is decreasing and
they are giving lowest rates to the peoples to remain in contact with relatives and with their families Introduction of CDMA
(Code Division Multiple Access) Technology in the mobile Sims is also creating the Opportunities for the
telecommunication industry. 17
