Treatment of Data
Calculations for the determination of the Activation energy
The slope of the graph is -25.378
𝐸𝑎 = -R x m
Where 𝐸𝑎 is activation energy
R is the gas constant (1.9872 cal/mol.℃)
m is the slope of the graph
The activation energy is
𝐸𝑎 = -1.9872cal/mol.℃ x -25.378
= 50.43cal/mol℃

Determination of the rate constant at ambient temperature (25℃)

By extrapolating the graph back to the y-intercept, it was found that lnA = -7.2888
Since:
𝐸𝑎
𝐾 = 𝐴𝑒 −𝑅𝑇
𝐸𝑎
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ln⁡[𝐴. 𝑒 −𝑅𝑇 ⁡]

𝐸𝑎
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ln[ 𝐴 + 𝑙𝑛𝑒 −𝑅𝑇 ⁡]
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = 𝑙𝑛𝐴 − 𝐸 𝑎 lne
𝑅𝑇

𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ⁡ −𝐸 𝑎 ⁡ + 𝑙𝑛𝐴
𝑅𝑇

𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ⁡ −𝐸 𝑎 ⁡{1 ) + lnA

𝑅𝑇 𝑇
Then y = mx + C
And lnA = C, where C = -7.2888
Using the equation: 𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ⁡ −𝐸 𝑎 ⁡{1 ) + lnA
𝑅𝑇 𝑇

𝐸𝑎
Where 𝑅𝑇 = ⁡ −25.378
1
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ⁡ −(−25.378) (25) + (−7.2888)
1
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = (25.378) (25) ⁡ + (−7.2888)

=1.01512- 7.2888
= - 6.27368
𝑙𝑛𝑘 = ⁡ −6.27368
𝑙𝑛𝑒⁡ k = -6.27368
Therefore:
𝑒 −6.27368= k
𝑘 = 0.00188⁡𝑚𝑖𝑛−1

Calculating the time for the 10% of the absorbance value change at ambient temperature
(25℃)
Since:
𝐴𝐹 = −𝐾𝑡 + ⁡ 𝐴0
Then: 𝑙𝑛𝐴𝐹 = 4.6284
10% INCREASE = (10/100 X 4.6284) + 4.6284
= 5.09124
ln 𝐴/𝐴𝑂 = −𝐾𝑡
5.09124
ln 4.6284 = (- 0.0050 x t)

T = 0.095310179/0,0050 = 17.98 mins
