Several people were arrested on the weekend after a teenager was killed in a suspected

brawl in Melbourne’s northwest on Sunday morning.

Aguer Akech, 17, was found beaten on the side of the road in Regan St in St Albans after
1.30am. He was found near the Keilor Plains train station and treated by paramedics at
the scene. Despite attempts to revive him, the teen died at the scene.
Aguer had been at home visiting family as a surprise over Christmas, according to
multiple reports. His mother was so distressed when she received news of his death from
police that she passed out and had to be hospitalised, according to 9 News.
“She was devastated. She was in shock and left unconscious afterwards. She had to be
taken to Melbourne Hospital,” said Chol Mariel, the chair of the South Sudanese
community in Victoria.
“Christmas has been torn apart. It won’t seem like Christmas anymore.”

Victoria Police believe he was assaulted during a brawl between two different groups of
young people. Police said in a statement the circumstances of the death were still being
established.
Broken wooden stakes and smashed bottles were found at the scene, and local residents
said they heard shouting before police arrived.
Police arrested 10 teenagers for questioning overnight but all were let go pending further
investigations, according to AAP.
The homicide squad is investigating and inquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information
is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
