Experiment #01
Flow and level control trainer
This level has been designed for students demonstration and to give them better understanding
how open and closed tank level measurement and level control is done , and to provide them
with a hands on experience on manipulating various control parameter using a microprocessor
based controller
Description
it can also be coupled with flow metering loop to enable cascade control studies. The equipment
consist of industrial grade instromentation to exhibit a realistic working environment of a true
level process using various tupes of measuring instroments and control strategy. All electrical
wiring is laid in flexible PVC conduit and instroment cables are screened. Individual starters to
the pumps are provides, power cables for the pump are placed in separate conduit from
instroment cables. For electrical safety a MCB is installed to prevent over current and an ELCB
is installed to prevent electrocution.
The control level is designed for IP 55 rating to protect against dust and water splashes,
identification tags are provided for every major iteom found in the equipment. A mimic diagram
is also included showing the process and instromentation diagram.

Process Description
SE 655 level and flow control trainer is a water process . water from the sump pump, is pumped
by a water circulating pump tp the level control tank. There are two discharge possibilities from
the tank bacl to the sump tank. One is known as the self regulatery mode using gravity flow for
the water to return to the sump tank the other is the self regulatery mode using a pump to drain
the water from the tank

Description of Parts

Pneumatic Valve
Air control valves are fundamental components of any pneumatic system. Selecting the right air control
valves to regulate system pressure, direction of flow, and rate of flow is crucial when designing fluid
power circuitry. If the pneumatic valve is too big for your application, you will be wasting air and
money. If it’s too small, the actuator will not function properly.

Globe valve
A globe valve is a linear motion valve used to stop, start, and regulate the fluid flow. The globe
valve disk can be removed entirely from the flow path, or it can completely close the flow path.
During opening and closing of globe valve, disc moves perpendicularly to the seat.

Ball Valve
A ball valve is a form of quarter-turn valve which uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to
control flow through it. It is open when the ball's hole is in line with the flow and closed when it
is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle. The handle lies flat in alignment with the flow when
open, and is perpendicular to it when closed, making for easy visual confirmation of the valve's
status.
