 Andaman and Nicobar islands are located in the
Bay of Bengal. They are a group of 572 islands,
islets and rocks. Its capital is Port Blair. The
inhabitants of these islands are mainly tribals.
 Lakshadweep Islands lie in the Arabian Sea. It
consists of ten inhabited islands, many islets and
atolls. It’s capital is Kavaratti.

IV Give reason
1. Seafood is the staple diet of the people of the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Ans :A variety of sea foods such as prawns, fish,
lobsters, crabs etc. are available in plenty in these
islands. Hence, seafood is the staple diet of the people of
the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
2. The Cellular Jail was built on the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands.

Ans : The Cellular Jail was built on the Andaman Islands


by the British for the following purposes.

* These islands are situated far away from the main land
India.

* It was not an easy task for the freedom fighters,


imprisoned there, to escape from there as it was situated
on an island.

3. Kerala is known as ‘God’s Own Country’.

Ans : Kerala is one of the most beautiful places in the


southern part of India. It is located between the Arabian
Sea on the west and the lush Western Ghats on the east.
There are many rivers, lagoons, thick forests, exotic
wildlife, backwaters, lagoons and beaches making it a
“Paradise on the Earth”. Hence, it is called ‘God’s Own
Country’.
