Bataan Death March
Bataan Death March
Peninsula and the island of the Philippines. About 75,000 Filipinos and Americans were forced to
marched a 65 mile to prison camp. They started marching in Mariveles, which is found on the southern
tip of Bataan Peninsula to San Fernando. Their march took around five to ten days before they reach the
prison camp. During these days, some Filipinos were beaten, shot and some are beheaded by the
Japanese. Only about 54,000 prisoners had reached the camp.
In October 1944, after what happened, US avenged their defeat in the Philippines through
invading the Leyte. It was led by General Douglas Mc Arthur. And in February 1945 US-Filipino take back
Bataan Peninsula.
After the end of the World War II, Lieutenant General Homma Masaharu, the Japanese
Commander of the invasion on the Philippines, was convicted by the U.S Military for being the one who
was responsible on the Death March the happened and abused on the Camp O’ Donnell.
