with 8+ years of full-stack software engineering experience for clients, startups, and my own projects.
Experience
Mechanical Opto-Engineering Intern · Magic Leap → May 2019 to Aug 2019
● Joined the Lightwear team, responsible for mechanical engineering of Magic Leap’s augmented reality wearable.
● Designed test fixtures and parts for new products and accessories, using Creo for CAD and Windchill for version
control. Work focused on adhesives, sheet metal clips, injection molded housings, and flexible printed circuits.
● Rebuilt and standardized tolerance workflow across team of ~50 engineers; included statistical analysis and
auto-lookup of manufacturing tolerances from ANSI, NADCA, and other standards. Reduced prep time by >25%.
● Studied thermal behavior of wearable under various software loads. Identified and proposed software changes,
reducing internal component temperature thresholds by 5-10%.
● Managed 3D print lab; prepared and post-processed ~200 prints across multiple FDM and SLA printers.
Co-founder + Engineer · Ryze → Jan 2017 to Aug 2018
● Designed and engineered the Ryze web app, mobile app, and backend systems; kept costs below $200/mo.
● Used React + React Native, Expo, Node.js, Python, GraphQL, Docker, and AWS (ECS, Fargate, RDS, VPC,
others) to build apps and infrastructure. A technical overview is available online or upon request.
● Acquired over 7,500 users across web and mobile applications.
Venture Partner + Software Engineer · Contrary Capital → Dec 2017 to present
● Supporting the startup ecosystem at Texas A&M, meeting with student entrepreneurs, assessing potential
investment opportunities, and conducting technical diligence for full-stack and infrastructure related companies.
● Built scraping engine and deal-flow data pipeline to manage Contrary's investment opportunities. Used Python,
Selenium, MongoDB, and a variety of APIs. Identified over 8,000 new founders in 2019.
Undergraduate Researcher · Dept. of Mechanical Engineering · Texas A&M University → Mar 2019 to present
● Mechanical design, software, and machining for a mechanochemical reactor - working under Dr. Felts.
● Building biometric authentication and data analytics for A&M's self-driving research vehicles under CAST.
Engineer · various projects → Jan 2015 to present
● Freelance web development and design work for clients. Focused on Wordpress, Shopify, and Laravel.
● Designed CAD models for prototypes of client products with Fusion 360.
● Built FORCEPT, an electronic medical record system for a local church to use on mission trips to Haiti.
● Built several personal projects, including All The Job Sites, ambitious.guide, VR Teardown, and my personal site.
● An in-depth design portfolio is available on my website at kelley.vc/portfolio.
