BASED ON FACTORY ACT 1948

AND

UTTER PRADESH FACTORY’S RULE 1950

UNDER SECTION 61

WITH SUBSEQUENT

AMENDMENTS
Name of the industry : M/S Global Autotech Ltd.
Location : 3D- Udyog Vihar, Echotech =II, Gr. Noida
G.B. Nagar U.P.
New/Old industry : Old
Type of Industry : Manufacturing Unit
Products : Auto-component
Classification of product & Raw material : Fire & Highly Flammable
Classification of stores : The stores are highly flammable Raw material
Fire Survey Grade I :

Present Scenario/Arrangements for fire fighting:

The factory management had already taken many precautions about fire fighting arrangements. The
survey had cross checked : water availability , extinguishers positioning , and in addition survey the
surrounding of factory to find out fire prone neighbors.

Remarks:

The industry is fire safe in general. The neighboring areas are safe. The fire will affect raw material or
cause great damages to material, plant / equipment and machines including electric fittings and
accessories.

Water calculation:

The standard calculation formula is : A + B + C + D divided by 20.

In above formula:

A = The total area sq. mtr. of all floors, including galleries in all buildings of the factory.

B = The total area in sq. mtr. of all floor and galleries including open spaces in which
combustible materials are handled stored.

C = The total area in sq. mtr. of all floors over 15 mtr. above ground level.

D = The total area in sq. mtr. of all floors of building’s other than those of fire resisting
construction provided fire resisting constructions of various floors is so certified by any
Fire Insurance Co.

Water supply for at least 100 minutes : requirements

1) 50 % or 4,50,000 ltrs. Which over is less be in the form of static tank.

2) Piped supply round the factory , pipe of min. 15 cm .Dia.
3) Pipeline capable of supplying minimum 4500 ltrs. Minutes at a pressure of not less than 7
Kg/sq.cm.
(1) Calculation for water

Total area (A) = 41828.16 sq. mtr

Total area where combustible material handled / stored

B = 5182.85 sq. mtr.

C = The total area in sq. mtr. of all floors over 15 mtr. above ground level = 0

Area other than fire resisting construction.

D = 41828.16 sq. mtr.

i.e. A + B + C + D = Total area for water calculation

41828.16 + 5182.85.00 + 0 + 41828.16 = 88839.2 sq.mtr.

Water required in litres per minute

=A+B+C+D
20

= 88839.2
20

= 4441.96 Ltr. Per Min.

= 4442 Ltr. Per Min.

Total water available for fire fighting

= 150000 ltr.

Required water supply for at least 100 minutes

= 4442 X 100

= 444200 litres

50% of required water = 444200/2 = 222100 ltr

min water required in the form of static tank = 50 % or 4,50,000 ltrs.

=> 222100 ltr min water required in the form of static tank

Available water supply is less than the required water supply

Available water supply will last for

150000 = 33.7 min.

4442

= 33.7 min. i.e. very less than 100 minutes.

And based on this , the following observations are given:

The industry have 150000 ltr. Water storage , in static tank. Where as industry have as per calculation
4442 ltr. per min. required or min 222100 ltr water is required in the form of static tank.

The above calculation clearly shows , that additional water storage is required min 72100 ltr.

As flammable materials are stored in the factory ,therefore fire Hydrant is required.

Provision of trailer pump is made available which is to be kept close to the source of water supply

As this manufacturing unit/ Plant uses petroleum products , use of water for fire fighting is not
recommended for small fires ; but any big fire will require the used of water at pressure not less than 7.0
kg/cm2.

The industry has fire prone areas where water for fire fighting is required. In the industry – The
manufacturing process area and Storage areas are ‘FIRE DANGEROUS’. For small fire, extinguishers are
to be used and for other fires , water under pressure (not less than 7.0 kg/cm2) to be used. Though, the fire
due to petroleum products will not controlled by water, Foam type fire Extinguishers are to be used. The
hydrant network is provided around the factory building with a sufficient size of pipe line. Hydrant posts
are provided nears the potential risk of fire locations. The pipe line required is not less than 15 cms. in dia
and must be capable to supply minimum of 8873 ltrs. Water / minute at a pressure not less than 7.0
Kg/cm2.

(2) If the area under B,C & D are protected by permanent automatic fire-fighting installation approved
by any fire association or fire insurance company such area may for the purpose of calculation be
halved i.e.

B+ C+ D = Area for water calculation

5182.85+ 0+ 41828.16 = 47011. sq. mtr.

=> 47011 = 23505.51 sq. mtr.

2

i.e. A+ (B+ C+ D) = Total area for water calculation

41828.16 +(23505.51) = 65333.67 sq.mtr.

=> 65333.67
20
= 3266.68 ltr./ min and For 100 Min. , Requirement of Water will be 326668 Ltr.
