Ie BSNL Connecting Siew Wi-Fi NOC BBNW Circle, Bangalore Bulletin November-20191. INTRODUCTION WEF is fast emerging as technology solution to provide high speed wireless internet connectivity. It allows a WLFI enabled electronic device such as a personal computer, Laptop, smart phone, tablet etc to access high-speed Internet connections. ‘An explosive surge in mobile data traffic volumes has been observed due to massive usage of smart devices coupled with easy access to bandwidth intensive applications. Wi- Fi is also an emerging technology for mobile data offloading and capable to relieve congestion in mobile network, enhance user experience by delivering high speed, provide extensive coverage and improvise the overall economics of their network deployment and operations. BSNL floated a tender of Wi-Fi hotspots and Wi-Fi offload of the mobile network through the hotspots in Oct2015 and same was awarded for Planning, engineering, Supply, installation, Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance to M/s L&T as L1 bidder in South and West Zone Circles and to M/s HFCL as L2 bidder in North and East Zone Circles. Later, USOF has awarded BSNL for setting up 25,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots at 25,000 RURAL TELEPHONE EXCHANGES in June'2017, BSNL partnered with Quadgen, Trimax and GOIP for providing Wi-Fi services on revenue share model across various zones. BSNL is providing Wi-Fi service through V-sat Supplied by M/S Virtuoso. BSNL Signed an agreement with M/s Google on 28" Apri'2019 for providing Wi-Fi Services on Advertisements based Revenue Share currently implemented for South and west zones on Cisco APs.
