1. Objective:

This SOP is for Smooth Operation of Seal water Pump.

2. Scope:

This SOP is applicable for Seal water Pump.

3. Responsibility:

Unit Control Engineer, Desk Engineer and Field Operator.

4. Safety PPE’s:
Ear Plugs, Safety Goggles & Hand Gloves.
5. Safety Precaution During operation:
Ensure no permit to work is pending on regarding this system by checking with EE/FE.
6. Description of the system:

Seal water is required for gland sealing of Vacuum pumps, clinker grinders, BA Overflow pumps etc.
So whenever Bottom Ash system, Esp Deashing system started then seal water pumps to be started
beforehand. The seal water pumps will run from main PLC HMI. One no. pressure indicator is
provided to monitor the pressure locally. For interlocking purpose one pressure switch is also
provided at the common header. There are two seal water pumps out of which one will be working at
a time.

7. Prechecks and Action By Field Engineer:

1. Ensure no PTW is pending for BAH Seal water pump.


2. Ensure Service water header press ok and its MIV is in open condition.
3. Pump breaker/panel is in service, Remote end are reset position.
4. Ensure pump protections are in service and all parameters indication is healthy.
5. The pump should rotate freely by hand.

8. Operating Procedure:

 Open pump suction valve 100%.

 Open discharge valve in crack position (i.e 5 to 10%).

 Release local push button switch.


 Start pump from SCADA.
 Open discharge valve 100% gradually.
 Now observe the vibration/temp of pump and bearing.
 Check discharge press. 7.0 kg/cm2 in discharge pipe line gauge.
 Periodically check ash water tank level and adjust water make up as per requirement.
 For any abnormalities record logbook and inform shift in charge.

Tripping of Seal water Pump:

1. Inlet header pressure load (>61.3 amps)


2. Motor overload or operation of Emergency PB from Local.
3. Discharge pressure low

11. CHECKING OF SYSTEM AFTER SHUT DOWN

 PHYSICALLY CHECK BOTTOM ASH HOPPER AFTER OPENING THE MAN


HOLE DOOR AS LIKE FOREIGN MATERIAL AFTER THAT CHECK THE
ROTATION OF CLINKER GRINDER IN FORWARD AND REVERSE DIRECTION.

 CHECK THE OIL LEVEL FREENESS.

 PHYSICALLY ALL VALVE CHECKING MANUALLY OPERATION THROUGH


PLC AS WELL.

 FIRST ENSURE SLURRY AND ASH WATER SUMP CLEANING AND THEN FILL
THE SUMP.

 CHECK THE SEAL PRESSURE OF ALL DOME VALVE PHYSICALLY.

 CHECK THE LINE VACUUM AND SHUT OFF VACUUM OF ALL PASSES.

 CHECK FLUIDIZING BLOWER AIR OF INDIVIDUAL HOPPER.

 CHECK THE PURZING OF BUFFER HOPPER AND SILO BAG FILTER.

 IF ANY PROBLEM OBSERVED IN EQUIPMENT THEN INFORM TO SHIFT IN


CHARGE/ OPERATION IN CHARGE IMMEDIATLY.
