SHORT FUNCTIONAL TEXT

Short Functional Text is a short text that has particular meaning and
purpose, and can be used in our daily life. It may be in the form of prohibition,
invitation, greeting cards, short message, shopping list, notice, announcement,
etc.

What is definition of short functional text? (Apa itu Short Functional

Text?) Short Functional Text adalah suatu teks (bacaan) pendek yang
mempunyai makna dan fungsi tertentu yang biasa digunakan dalam kehidupan
sehari-hari. Adapun yang termasuk Short functional text adalah: Notice, Short
message, Announcement, Greeting card, Invitation, Advertisement, dll.

Example 1: Announcement

Announcement text is a text that describes a notification about an event

that will be held, and is more for the general audience does not like the text
that is specific Invitation ("announcement text adalah sebuah teks yang
menerangkan sebuah pemberitahuan tentang sebuah acara yang akan di adakan ,
dan lebih bersifat untuk khalayak umum tidak seperti text Invitation yang
bersifat khusus").

Purpose Of Announcement text ( Tujuan Text announcement ).

The purpose is to inform the announcement text information about an

event, job vacancies, new enrollment, new admissions, and so on. ("Tujuan
announcement text adalah untuk memberitahukan informasi tentang sebuah
acara, Lowongan pekerjaan, penerimaan murid baru, penerimaan mahasiswa baru,
dan sebagainya").
The Functions: to provide complete and clear information about certain events
or occasion

Some characteristics of announcement:

1. Straightforward and ease the readers to get information quickly.

2. Keep it short, inviting, and to the point.
3. Clear and complete.
4. For a bad news, make a direct and no-nonsense statement.

Announcement

Announcement adalah sebuah teks pendek yang mempunyai fungsi

memberikan suatu informasi resmi tentang sesuatu kepada orang banyak.

1. English speech contest

2. Volley ball
3. Football
The contest will be held 17 July -21 July 2016. Each class must send
 participant for the contest. For the more information contact the

Example 2: Greeting Card

Greeting card is a letter (usually decorated with pictures) that are used
to congratulate, pray for someone, and so on. The form of greeting cards such
as greeting cards, greeting card grief / sympathy and get-well greeting cards.

Atau yg diartikan : Greeting card adalah sepucuk surat (biasanya dihiasi

dengan gambar) yang digunakan untuk memberi ucapan selamat, mendoakan
seseorang, dan sebagainya. Adapun bentuk greeting card misalnya kartu ucapan
selamat, kartu ucapan duka/simpati, dan kartu ucapan lekas sembuh.

Greeting Cards functions as an expression of sympathy and care to others.

The purpose is to congratulate someone’ achievement, express sympathy on

someone’s, and motivate someone on gaining achievement

Some characteristics of greeting card:

1. Clarify a clear purpose.

 2. Use an appraisal diction.
3. Accurate addressee.

Greeting Card (Kartu Ucapan)

Suatu bentuk teks pendek yang berisi tentang harapan atau ucapan yang
dikirimkan kepada seseorang pada saat-saat tertentu. Contohnya ucapan ulang
tahun, lebaran, Tahun baru, dan lain-lain.
Adapun bentuk dari kartu ucapan diantaranya:

a. Birthday card. (Kartu ucapan Ulang Tahun)

Diberikan pada saat sesorang Ulang tahun.

b. Thank you Card. (Kartu ucapan terima kasih)

Diberikan untuk mengungkapkan rasa terima kasih.

c. Congratulation Card. (Kartu ucapan selamat)

Diberikan untuk seseorang yang telah meraih keberhasilan atau kesuksesan.

d. Condolence Card . (Kartu ucapan bela sungkawa)

Diberikan untuk mengungkapkan rasa bela sungkawa.

e. Religion card
Diberikan ketika seseorang merayakan hari –hari raya keagamaan.

Example 3: Invitation

What is an Invitation? Invitation adalah:

An invitation is a request, a solicitation, or an attempt to get another person to
join you at a specific event.
 Kalau kita artikan dalam bahasa Indonesia, invitation adalah sebuah
permintaan, ajakan, atau upaya terhadap orang lain agar bersedia bergabung
atau datang dengan kita pada suatu acara tertentu.
Invitation a text which containing a request, a solicitation, or an attempt to get
another person to join you at a specific event (sebuah teks yang berisi sebuah
permintaan).

Function/Purpose is to o invite someone to attend an occasion.

The Structure/Parts: The addressee (the person invited), salutation, the

message (the content of the message), and the Sender

Some characteristics of invitation:

1. Having an accurate addressee

2. Giving clear time, place, and activity
3. Providing sufficient information about the inviter
4. Expressing that the writer is looking forward to seeing person
5. If there is a dress code, state it in the lower left-hand corner

Invitation

Invitation adalah sebuah teks pendek yang berupa Undangan yang

diberikan pada seseorang kepada orang lain untuk menghadiri acara tertentu.
Sepertii Undanganpernikahan, ulang tahun.dan lain-lain.

Contoh:

To: Tia
I invite you to attend my 20th birthday party. It will be held on Sunday 20 july
2016 at 07.00 pm at my sweet house. I hope your coming.
Example 4: Notice/Guidance

The Functions of notice/guidance:

1. Prohibition notifies people not to do something. People may find this kind
of notice in a public places.
2. Caution or warning warns people to be careful in handling something.
Ignoring the notice may cause injury or breaking the facilities.
3. Guidance gives information to people to do something appropriately.
4. The informational notice provides information that could be useful for
people.

Notice/Caution/warning (Petunjuk/Peringatan).

Suatu teks pendek yang berisi informasi singkat yang dijutukan untuk
kepentingan orang banyak. Teks ini digunakan untuk memeberi informasi tentang
petunjuk atau peringatan kepada khalayak orang banyak.

Contoh:

 “NO SMOKING” (Dilarang Merokok!)

 “DON’T SWIMMING” (Dilarang berenang!)
 “PLEASE TURN OFF SELULAR PHONE” (Dimohon untuk mematikan Hand
phone)
 “DON’T ENTER STAFF ONLY” (Selain pegawai dilarang masuk!)
 “DON’T TURN LEFT” (Dilarang belok ke kiri)

Example 5: Short Message

Definition of Short Message

Short Message is a short message that is used to convey something to

others that the person is doing or not doing something because we can not meet
directly to the people we will give the message.

Pengertian Short Message

Short message adalah pesan singkat yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan

sesuatu kepada orang lain agar orang tersebut melakukan atau tidak melakukan
sesuatu karena kita tidak bisa bertemu secara langsung kepada orang yang akan
kita beri pesan tersebut.

Its function is to send an important message to other people

Some characteristics of a short message

1. Clear addressee (someone who receives the message)

2. Straight forward
3. If it is an instruction state it clearly.

Short Message (Pesan Singkat)

Short Message adalah bentuk teks pendek yang berfungsi memeberi tahu
seseorang tentang informasi tertentu. Pesan disampaikan dikarenakan tidak
dapat bertemu langsung dengan orang tersebut. Ini bisa dilakukan dengan cara
menulis pesan singkat pada secarik kertas atau melalui handphone.

Contoh:

Don’t forget to pick up your little sister at school at 10.am.

Because today is very hot, don’t forget to bring an umbrella.
