The Integrated Bar of the Philippines Western Mindanao Region will hold its Regional
Convention on June 21-23, 2018 with a theme “A Rational Approach to Martial Law:
Working Together for a Common Goal for Mindanao”, which aims to examine the
factors prompting the 2017 declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao, review the effects
of such declaration, and check whether said declaration has brought about the issues
and concerns attendant to the 1972 Martial Law declaration. The goal of the convention
is for the participants to be able to come up with specific programs of action to address
Martial Law issues and concerns, and implement said programs in their respective
jurisdictions.
In keeping with the mandate of the Commission to effectively provide legal assistance to
Muslim Filipinos, we believe that this convention is highly essential and very timely as it
will allow us to be apprised of and updated with the current legal issues in Mindanao
which is the home to majority of the Muslim Filipinos, as well as other concerns
affecting the legal profession. It will also be a great opportunity to promote synergy,
camaraderie and friendship among members of the profession in the Region.
In view thereof, may we respectfully request that we be allowed to attend said
convention to be held in Ozamiz City, and that we be granted the corresponding funds
for registration, travel and accommodation, as well as per diem for said event.
