Fiber Assist Tool 1-

This chapter describes the Fiber Assist Tool (FAST) of the 1600G Amplifier.
Topics covered include the following:
• sample illustrations of the Fiber Assist Tool
• functions of each section
• user access class information
Note: The Fiber Assist Tool applies only to the 1600G Amplifier.

The Fiber Assist Tool guides you through the steps of connecting circuit packs
with fiber optics to create Optical Transport Repeater (OTR) topologies. For
additional information on the creation of OTR topologies, refer to
OPTera Long Haul 1600G Amplifier Network Application Guide,
NTY314AX.

Two screens are available in the Fiber Assist Tool: the variable selector screen
and the topology output screen.

Variable selector screen

The variable selector screen consists of four variable groups: Unit and Card
configuration, OSC and Bypass types, Site type and Direction. This screen
allows you to select different combinations of variables and display the steps
necessary for creating the desired topology. The following is an example of the
variable selector screen:

There are two main types of functions in the variable selector screen: variable
fields and function buttons.

Variable fields
There are six variable fields in the variable selector screen. Each field allows
you to select one of several variables. Each field is located in one of four
numbered areas in the screen. The following is a list of the variable areas and
the variable fields they contain:

• Area 1: Unit field and Card Configuration field;

• Area 2: OSC field and Bypass field;
• Area 3: Site Type field;
• Area 4: Direction field;
To select a variable from a field, click on the field. A pull-down menu of the
variables available in that field appears.
