Activity Proposal English
II. OBJECTIVES
This activity aims to:
a.) Encourage the senior high school students to participate and showcase their speaking
and writing skills as well as their critical thinking skills;
b.) develop skills and competencies in language and literary events; and
c.) highlight students’ performance with confidence in different literary events.
2. Declamation
It is an artistic form of public speaking. It is a dramatic oration designed to present
through articulation, emphasis and gesture the full sense of the message being imparted.
There should be 1 representative per strand. Each participant will be given a maximum
of 5mins to deliver his/her speech.
3. Spellathon
It is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words,
usually with a varying degree of difficulty. There should be 1 participant in each strands
regardless of the grade level.
4. Storytelling
Storytelling is the traditional story telling whereas, a participant will narrate a story
while dressed up as the main character of the story he or she is telling. The story teller
is free to bring or use any stage props to add flavor to the performance.
5. Amazing Race
It is a game consisting of 10 members and has various stations to complete in order to
win the race. Each station has different set of activities such as puzzles, jumbled words,
riddles, song completion, etc.
6. Essay Writing Contest
This is an activity that celebrates and nurtures students’ creative talents in writing using
the second language. In this activity, students will write their ideas and concepts about
the theme of the English Festival. They will express their feelings and thoughts
accurately following the precise mechanics in writing an essay. There should be 1
participant in each strand regardless of the grade level.
7. Quiz Bee
The quiz is testing the students’ knowledge in various areas of English such as grammar
and literature. It consists of 4 members per strand; 3 players on the actual game and the
other 1 is reserved and can be used as substitute. Questions may vary depending on the
degree of difficulty.
8. Jazz Chant
A Jazz chant is a poem that uses jazz rhythms to illustrate the natural stress and
intonation patterns of conversational English. It provides an exciting way to improve
your student's speaking and listening comprehension skills while reinforcing the
language structures of everyday situation. This activity requires 20 participants to be
able to join and they will be given a maximum time of 10mins each group. (Please see
attached program).
