Wikang Katutubo: Tungo sa isang bansang Pilipino

Ang wika ng mga katutubo ay pagkakilanlan. Ang mga wikang katutubo rin ay yaman ng
ating kultura at kaluluwa ng mga katutubong Pilipino at ng lahing Pilipino. Ang paglaho ng mga
wikang katutubo ay pagkawala ng isang malaking bahagi ng kultura. Tunay na ang wikang
katutubo ay mayroong malaking gampanin sa ating mayamang kultura bilang mga Pilipino.
Ngunit bakit nga ba napapabayaan at kinakalimutan ang mga ito? Iyan ang ating talakayin at
palalimin.

Ang Pilipinas ay binubuo ng 7,107 mga pulo kung saan 2,000 dito ay pinanahanan. Buhat
sa pagiging arkipelago nito ay umusbong ang ibat ibang wika na hitik sa yaman ng kultura ng
bawat grupo ng mga katutubo. Sa tantya ng National Commission on Indigenous Peoples
(NCIP), humigit-kumulang 14 milyon ang mga katutubo sa Pilipinas, at kadalasan, nakatira sila
sa kabundukan at malalayong lugar. Mayroong 175 wika sa Pilipinas, 171 dito ay nanatiling
gamit pa at 4 ay tuluyang lumipas na, dahil dito, kailangan na pangalagaan ang mga wikang
katutubo dulot na rin ng mabilis na globalisasyon.

Sa kasalukuyan, dahil sa pag- iral ng social media sa ating bansa, mabilis na nahumaling
ang mga kabataan sa Wikang banyaga. Ilan sa mga ito ay ang Korean, Japanese, English at iba
ba. Hindi masama ang matuto ng mga ito ngunit ito ang nagiging ugat ng pagtalikod sa sariling
wika at mas bigyang halaga ang kulktura ng iba. Hindi maipagkakaila na ang social media ay
nagpabago sa kung paano tayo nakikipagusap sa iba’t ibang tao. Mula sa pagbahagi ng ating mga
saloobin hanggang sa pagplano kung saan natin gusto pumunta sa bakasyon ito ay halos
nakalagay o nakapaloob sa ating mga social media accounts tulad na lamang ng Facebook at
Twitter.

Ang social media para sa atin ay ang tulay upang magkaroon ng komunikasyon sa mas
maraming tao, ito ay nakakatulong sa pagkakaroon ng mga kaibigan kahit nasa malayo man sila.
Sa pagkakaroon ng mga kaibigan sa malalayong lugar, umuunlad ang wika at napapalawak ang
ating bokabularyo. Malaki din ang naitutulong ng social media sa ating wika sa kadahilanan na
maraming impormasyon o kaalaman ang ating nakukuha sa social media, katulad na lamang ng
pagkakaroon ng mga panibagong salita: barkada, balikbayan, at gimmick. Ngunit ito din ay may
kamalian sapagkat sa pagunlad ng social media, sa paglimot ng mga lumang wika na galing pa sa
ating mga ninuno at nasasalinan din ang wika ng halong Ingles na kung saan nagiging slang ang
ilan sa ating mga Pilipino.

Isa ring negatibong epekto nito ay mas pinipili na ng mga kabataan na makipagusap na
lamang sa mga social networking sites kesa sa personal magusap kasi para sa kanila mas mabilis
at mas madalas nila itong ginagamit. Dapat may balanse at limitasyon ang paggamit natin ng
social media, huwag natin kakalimutan ang ating wika, gamitin natin ang social media sa tamang
paraan at sa alam nating makakatulong upang umunlad ang ating wika.
Weathering With You

The life of a teenager is complicated because one has to deal with problems such as finding his
or her belongingness, taking risks and exploring what the world has to offer.

Makoto Shinkai, the director and writer of the previous global smash hit Your Name, created a
new movie entitled as Weathering With You. This film is all about a teenage boy who runs away
to Tokyo and befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather. He wants to
convey a different level of message to its viewers through the new flavor he put in this animated
movie.

Weathering With You, with its commendable graphics and storyline, has garnered billions of
sales bein one of the top-grossing films worldwide this 2019. It was highly anticipated by the
audience since its trailer was released.

The method which was evidently used in the movie was formalism. This is because there are a
lot of things where symbolism is attached to. The main characters for example, symbolizes the
struggles of a teenager. The scenarios depicted in the show wants to imply sacrifices and
coping with life.

Since the movie is fiction, and it originated from Japan, there are claims such as the existence
of a god that gives people the power to control the weather. The idea that was emphasized here
is regarding how an individual should sometimes take risks and explore what destiny has to
offer him or her.

Through showing various scenario, the writer was able to explicitly show the complications that
teenagers may face as stated in the start.

In the movie, different issues were presented. One of which is regarding poor parental
supervision. The two main characters, Hodaka Morishima and Hina Amano, were minors who
run away from their homes to live their lives on their own. However, destiny did not let them
escape easily and hardships confronted them. It was exhibited that lack of parental guidance
may lead to conflicts such as illegal handling of firearms.

In addition, Weathering With You was able to summon the vibe of courage as the how
characters were into the exploration of themselves to find what their purposes were. It also
tackles about our relation with ourselves, those who are close to us, and the one that makes us
feel special.

Moreover, it greatly showed the idea of how we go beyond from what society expects to us. We
should not let society define who we are, especially if we ourselves know what is true. It is also
the way of how we can save people who are dear to us.
This film also serves as a warning that by placing the weight of the world on your shoulders
while refusing to open up to other risk might result in making things worse, and could leave you
unable to protect that which you care the most.

In conclusion, Weathering With You gives the usual romantic teenage vibe that emphasizes the
courage and sacrifice. The overall impression can thus be labelled is very satisfying since the
unique theme of the movie is partnered up with an improved visual and soundtrack.

It is great how this movie was able to throw the thought of coming-of-age story that grapples the
notion of love and loss. It is evident that the writer wants people of all ages to watch the movie
since the theme is not only applicable for teenagers but to the other ages also.

One can highly benefit from the show through integrating the moral lesson it aligned in real life.
It can be applied that life is not just all about happiness and romance, it is also about the
sacrifices that a person should do.

Personal Viewing of Media Literacy

Globally, people are engaged in using different media to communicate and get information. It
may be through newspapers, books, magazines, letters, websites, blogs, or chats. The
accuracy, preciseness, and safety cannot be generalized to all the forms of media we are
engaged to. In connection with this, we need to be educated about the use of media, and
evaluate ourselves through this type of course.

Personally, I don’t know what rating is applicable to determine how media literate am I. Being
part of the millennial, I am not into books, newspapers, and other printed stuff. My preference is
surfing in the internet, logging in my social media accounts for local and major updates, and
most commonly, watch uploaded videos. When I am on these things, mostly I find myself
carefree. I am not really mindful on entering different websites or social media platforms. When
it comes to searching for information or downloading any file type, I don’t put any care on the
websites’ trustworthiness for I find how time consuming is evaluating them. However, I am not
too foolish to easily put any private information about myself on any websites or social media
platforms for I know how it can bring danger to my personal life.

Reflecting on my personal habit, I can say that I need further understanding about the use of
these various media, and I think it would be the role of teaching Media Literacy. In my opinion,
educating the students about the existing form of media of communication is indeed a need. I
think it would be a help not just for me but also for others to be aware, and equipped with critical
knowledge in using and evaluating any form of media. In addition, I believe that Media Literacy
will let students like me notice the wrong practices that we often neglect which really needed our
attention. Moreover, I also think that within the actual learning of this course I will realize that its
importance is far beyond my expectations.
In conclusion, I can say that what will really matter in teaching Media Literacy is the learner's
personal reflection, development, and practical application in dealing with any kind of media to
get an accurate information without being exposed to harm. What is only needed for this course
to accomplish its goal is for us, learners, to be open for any new concepts, principles and
suggestions.
