Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus) as a Mosquito Repellant

RATIONALE

Cymbopogon Citratus is a type of Lemongrass that is tall stalky plant that can be
found in sub-tropical and tropical countries that grows in fertile, well-drained, sandy,
loamy soil exposed to sunlight. This is the element in your typical Mosquito Patches.
Mosquito Patches may not be that convenient because it may fall of your cloth.
Lemongrass have a lot of benefits such as controlling the blood sugar and cholesterol,
increases the immune system, reduces the cancer risk and help promote healthy
digestion. According to World Health Organization, more than 1 Million people die every
year because of Mosquito bites. We want to eliminate the number of people who die.
We are trying to make Mosquito Repellant to help people in saving their lives.

One of the smell that mosquito hates are the Cymbopogon Citratus. Cymbopogon
C. are affordable. You can make this repellant every time you ran out of this solution.
We will extract the Cymbopogon Citratus to make the lotion. The juice of the
Lemongrass will be the main ingredient in making this repellant. This can be done by
blending the grass in a blender to make sure that everything is blended. We can put it
inside a jar or container so that you can use it every time, everywhere especially during
the rainy days.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

 To help people lessen their stress in buying expensive mosquito repellant that
doesn’t give any effects on their selves.
 To help enjoy their lives outside a room, enjoying fresh air.
 To lessen the people who are dying because of mosquito bites

Carabao Manure as a Mosquito Coil

RATIONALE

The alarming case of Dengue in the country is spreading widely and the victims
are continue to rise. Many companies, even the Department of Health were alarm by
the rapid increase of the dengue carrying mosquitoes. The DOH continues to develop
possible solution to decrease the case of dengue. Some of the government agency
continue to search any alternatives medicines and to solve this problem. Eucalyptus
and Lemongrass(Cymbopogon) are one of the specimens which show the characteristic
of compounds in repelling mosquitoes with the help of Carabao manure. It can serve as
an effective medium which the Eucalyptus and Lemongrass can mix with Carabao
manure to produce a mosquito coil. This is one of the ways that can help to decrease
the rate of death rate due to the cases of dengue. This mosquito coil made out of
carabao manure can be an alternative medium to reduce the case of dengue related
problems. With this product also known as “Katol” can be a good buster against
mosquitoes due to reduce the number of dengue cases.

Mostly found on the stores are the commercialized chemical based mosquito coils
and the coils contains high level of toxic chemicals that cause respiratory illness.
Mosquito coils help to prevent and to control the outbreak of diseases such as Malaria,
and Dengue fever. According to Department of Science and Technology, Carabao
manure is an effective alternative medium for commercialized mosquito coils. And some
studies showed that extracts of lemon grass and eucalyptus leaves do possess some
ability to repel mosquitoes. It smells is similar to menthol and acts as coolant.

 To produce an effective mosquito coil out of Carabao manure with an extract of


lemon grass and eucalyptus leaves combined together.
 To help people lessen their stress in buying expensive mosquito repellant that
doesn’t give any effects on their selves.

Guava Leaves (Psidium Guajava L.) as Toothpaste

RATIONALE

Psidium Guajava L., popularly known as guava, is a small tree belonging to the
Myrtle family (Myrtaceae). Native to tropical areas from southern Mexico to northern
South America, guava trees have been grown by many other countries having tropical
and subtropical climates, thus allowing production around the world. Traditionally,
preparations of the leaves have been used in folk medicine in several countries, mainly
as anti-diarrheal remedy. Moreover, other several uses have been described elsewhere
on all continents, with the exception of Europe summarizes the main traditional uses of
guava leaves in the main producer countries. Depending upon the illness, the
application of the remedy is either oral or topical. The consumption of decoction,
infusion, and boiled preparations is the most common way to overcome several
disorders, such as rheumatism, diarrhea, diabetes mellitus, and cough, in India, China,
Pakistan, and Bangladesh, while in Southeast Asia the decoction is used as gargle for
mouth ulcers and as anti-bactericidal in Nigeria. For skin and wound applications,
poultice is externally used in Mexico, Brazil, Philippines, and Nigeria. In addition,
chewing stick is used for oral care in Nigeria.

Antibacterial activity of guava leaf extract on dental plaque. Most common oral
bacteria may cause dental caries and periodontitis. Leaves have traditionally been used
to manage several diseases. Guava leaves used to demonstrate the potential of the
extracts from the leaves for the co-treatment of different ailments with high prevalence
worldwide, the traditional medicine in cases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular
diseases, cancer, and parasitic infections.

Usually mouthwashes are an antiseptic solution intended to reduce the microbial


load in oral cavity. Herbal toothpaste helps in prevention of cavities, restores enamel,
strengthens teeth and freshens breath. The rate of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and
side effects of antibiotics and oral and teeth health care products are increasing.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

 To estimate the antibacterial effect of herbal toothpaste in comparison with


conventional toothpaste in reducing the bacteria.
 To aim and finding new alternatives to control bacteria of dental caries.
 Help to treat and manage various diseases.
 To help people lessen their stress in buying expensive toothpaste that doesn’t
give any effects on their selves.
