Beyond If Accelerator

1. The Why

We challenge the accepted. We push beyond boundaries and innovate to deliver for today and into
tomorrow.

Beyond If is our global program which seeks to embed and sustain our innovation culture at Jacobs.
We don’t just ask ‘What if?’ - we act to turn ideas into reality; helping our clients solve their greatest
challenges. At every level of the organization, we have the courage to approach problems
differently and try something new.

To create this culture of innovation, in FY20 we continue to work towards the creation of xLOB, global innovation
centers; a collaborative effort to:
▪ Develop, test, prototype, pilot, demo and deploy a wide range of technology solutions to our clients’
problems
▪ Crate market opportunities
▪ Bolster skillsets and best practices across LOBs
Prior to the physical siting of the first innovation center, in FY20 we will be leading with an ‘innovation
accelerator’.

2. The What
An innovation accelerator is a program to develop, test and grow new business ideas in a few months outside of
organisational processes and deliverables. Working with an innovation partner, Board of Innovation, in FY20 we
will be undertaking a 3-phase program (Explore, Incubate and Accelerate) that follows a lean startup approach
(see outline below).

In ‘Explore’, we start with client problems and take the time to fully understand and define validated problem
statements, reframing as required. In the ‘Incubate’ phase we ideate to develop potential solutions and define
the business model & value. At the end of the incubation phase, teams will make their pitch and 3+ ideas will be
taken forward through ‘Accelerate’. This will be an intense 1.5 month (full-time) sprint with dedicated team
coaching to validate business assumptions and design a go-to market strategy.

Beyond If Accelerator

3. The Who
Jacobs employees will work in core teams of 2-3 people throughout the program with support from executive
sponsors and coaches. Teams are expected to reach back into the business as required to access technical and
subject matter expertise. Some flex is expected as ideas mature and skillset requirements change throughout the
‘Accelerate’ phase.

We are looking to identify people from across the business who can help us accelerate new business ideas:
▪ ‘The Strategist’ – The one who defines the vision & aligns it with the capabilities of the organisation
▪ ‘The Scout’ – the one who explores the unknown to discover problems worth solving
▪ ‘The Designer’ – the one who generates and develops ideas
▪ ‘The Entrepreneur’ – the one who brings people together to bring a concept to market

THE PERSON

We welcome applications from everyone within the business, from any technical background, line of business or
office. We are searching for those that:
▪ Understand the corporate context
▪ Are open minded and driven to change the status quo
▪ Are self-aware, can ask for help when needed and are able to pivot their opinion based on data
▪ Are generalists capable and interested to find cross-over links between markets and technologies and to
fulfil different roles when they evolve
▪ Are outgoing and ready to talk to (potential) clients, when solutions are not perfect yet
▪ Are passionate to experiment and explore new ways of working
▪ Have proven entrepreneurial experience (in/outside the organisation)
▪ Have the energy to drive business growth and take ideas forward
To encourage diversity of thought and invite new perspectives, individuals will apply for the general program and
will be aligned with particular problem areas and solutions as appropriate throughout the ‘Explore’ phase.
