Academic Requirements of Criminology
Academic Requirements of Criminology
The academic training of a criminologist is difficult, according to "The Princeton Review." Entry-level
criminologist jobs require a minimum of a bachelor's degree, usually in sociology, psychology or criminology.
Some essential classes include English composition, computer science, logic and statistics. Many advanced
criminologist positions require a master's degree, while professors of criminology need a doctorate.
Prospective criminologists face strong competition in the job market. As a result, entry-level job applicants
need practical experience in addition to a degree. North Carolina State University strongly recommends getting
hands-on experience through an internship, cooperative program or part-time job during your undergraduate
years.
Why did I choose Criminology:I choose this course because I wanted to be a lawyer.
My current job:Right now I applied to a security officer job, but also waiting for an
opportunity on a government agency. Still in limbo.
How long did it take to find a job:After graduation I took the board exam, get my civil
service professional, and by February 2015 started to look for a job.
Well, one thing I find really unfair about taking this course, you have to be 5'2 in height, or you have
padrino. These are far more powerful than doing your best, getting high grades, honor, passing with
flying colors. I wanted to work as police officer but I do not have indigenous relatives for my height
waiver. As a consequence, I never had the chance to pass my application form. The only choice left is to
apply for admin works. I targeted the government agencies but it took them forever to read my resume.
Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:Be ready of criticism,
cursing, failure that you may encounter from the first day of enrollment until graduation. It is very
important to master the lobbying, you really have to get some connections and advice from successful
people and financial support because it's costly. Above all, don't take this course in doubts and 2nd
thought. It will eat you alive.
