WARNING

When the generator is switched off, there is still voltage present

on the inverter module.
After switching off the generator, there is still approx. 600 V DC
voltage present for the inverter ! This is indicated by
the LEDs on the inverter. The voltage dissipates within approx. 2 minutes to < 30
V; the LEDs go off at approx. 30 V.
Checks or adjustments that must be performed with radiation
switched on are labeled with the radiation warning symbol .
While performing such work, appropriate radiation safety measures
must be provided.

Error code table

When the equipment shows some kind of blocking during the preparation, after 30s a
code shall appear on the panel, indicating that there was some blocking. The codes are
as follows:

001 – Blocking of anode starter.

002 – Blocking of sub-current.
003 – Blocking of over-current.
004 – Communication fault.
005 – Blocking of maximum KV.
– Blocking of open door at the moment of discharge.
006 – Blocking of IGBT (inverter module).

PROBLEM SOLUTIONS

Problem solutions

1. ERROR 001 : BLOCKING OF ANODE STARTER

1.1- ATTENTION: Equipment disconnected! Verify the fuses F7 and

F8 of the D5-S plate.
1.2- If the starter time is higher than 1s the protection will actuate.
In this case, adjust the time as per technical manual.
1.3- Contactor of the D4-S plate with adherence of contacts.
1.4- Conduit starter cable connected incorrectly to the terminal box of the
generator.
1.5- Repeat the 5th step of the Service Manual.
NOTE: This equipment requires a perfect grounding (exclusive grounding). If
this is not observed eventually this error may occur due to an inadequate
grounding.
1.6- Verify the starter capacitor of D4-S. It can be shorted, open or cracking.

2. ERROR 002 : BLOCKING OF SUB-CURRENT

2.1- Increase the pressure of the terminals in the negative line of the high
tension cable.

17
2.2- Equip the Cathotest and connect once more the equipment. If the
filaments become lighted, the problem will be in the conduit.
2.3- ATTENTION: Equipment disconnected! Verify fuses F16 and F17
of the D5-S plate. If they are burned verify if there is some short-circuit in
the K9 connector of the D3-S plate.
2.4- Repeat 2nd step of the service manual.
2.5- ATTENTION: Equipment disconnected! Disconnect the K8 cabling of
the D3-S plate and consider the value of 4,2 ohm in the cable between
K8-1 and K8-2, 4,2ohm between K8-1 and K8-3, 8,4 ohm between K8-2
and K8-3.
If you do not find these values, check the filament cable, the connection to
the high tension transformer and the generator terminals.

3. ERROR 003 : BLOCKING OF OVER-CURRENT

3.1- Repeat the 2nd step of the service manual.

3.2- Recalibrate the currents.

4. ERROR 004 : FAULT OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE PANEL

4.1- Check the panel/generator interconnection cable.

5. ERROR 005 : BLOCKING OF KV MAXIMUM/OPEN DOOR

5.1- Repeat the 3rd step and then the 10th step of the service manual.
5.2- Check the K19 connector of the D6-S plate.
5.3- Check the X1 connector of the D6-S.
5.4- Check the closing of the room door and the sensor.

6. ERR0R 006 : BLOCKING OF IGBT

6.1- Check the resistance of the room network. Usually this blocking occurs
when the network does not succeed providing power to the equipment.
IMPORTANT: If this will be the case, the power limit of the equipment must be
changed so that the inverter module will not be damaged!

6.2- Repeat the 10th step of the service manual. If the calibrating parameter in
R13 of the D6-S plate is very close to 3V and the network is not proper,
this blocking can occur. Slowly decrease this value and observe the
equipment behavior.
6.3- If this blocking occurs in discharges of low power, the problem can be in
the inverter module or in the HV transformer.

7. THE PANEL DOES NOT TURN ON.

7.1- ATTENTION: Equipment disconnected! Check the Diazed fuses of the

board and the generator.
7.2- Check the F13 fuse of the D5-S plate.

18
7.3- Check the connection from plate to generator.

8. THE PANEL TURNS ON BUT NOT THE EQUIPMENT.

8.1- Check the fuses F14 and F15 of the D5-S plate.
8.2- Check in R13 of the D5-S plate if the signal changes from high to low
level when pressing the key “On” at the panel. If it is OK, the problem is in
the D5-S plate, if not check the origin of this signal at the D2-S plate.

9. NO EXPOSITION.

9.1- Check connector K19 in D6-S.

9.2- Check the fuses F19 and F20 in the D5-S plate.
9.3- Verify if no anode of D5 in the D6-S plate shows a tension level close to
15VDC. If it is low and do not show any ERROR message when pressing
the “Preparation” key, the problem is in D6-S or inverter. Remove the
connectors X5 and X6 of the D6-S plate, if the signal is rising up to 15
VDC the problem is in the inverter, if it remains low the problem is in the
D6-S.
If this tension level is high and during the discharge is discontinued, this
occurs due to some blocking coming from D3-S, from the inverter or from
the D6-S. Proceed as follows:

9.3.1- Remove the K17 connector of the D6-S and make the discharge routine
( Key “PREP.” And after release, key “DISCH.”) If the signal does not be
discontinued this occurs due to the fact that the blocking comes from D3-
S.
9.3.2- If the signal is discontinued, restore the K17 connector and measure with
the oscillation meter a high level in the D8cathode. Make the Discharge
routine ( Key “PREP.” And after release, key “DISCH.”), if the signal is
discontinued, this occurs due to the fact of some blocking coming from the
inverter.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE

FIGURES

Important considerations for the figures

19
Note: The oscillation meter used for the seizure of these signals has low
sampling rate, reason why in Figure 06 can be noticed that the KV signal shows
some peaks, sometime down, sometime up, suggesting that there was some
tension peak that does not match with the fact of the signal.

Figure 01

Refers to the stand-by current wave form, considered in R59 of the D3-S plate. The
wave form displayed at this point during the preparation routine refers to the selected
current in the panel. Note that it is possible to consider the work frequency of D3-S at
this point. The cursors of the oscillation meter are highlighting this.

Figure 02

Refers to the Dead Time (dead time where is no IGBT conduction) due to the discharge
pulses in the gates of the filament IGBTs in the D3-S plate. They are essential for the
circuit and it is a very important detail for the functioning. The cursors of the oscillation
meter are highlighting the Dead Time. Note that the Dead Time is 5.6 µs. Without
Dead Time the IGBTs will come into short-circuit damaging the plate.

Figure 03

Refers to the KV wave form during a discharge in the technique of

60KV/500mS/50mAs. Note that the cursors of the oscillation meter are highlighting the
charging time of 100ms as selected.

Figure 04

Refers to the oscillator signal that imposes the work frequency of the inverter module.
Note that the cursors of the oscillation meter are highlighting the frequency metering.

Figure 05

Refers to the signal used for adjustment of the anode starter time. The cursors of the
oscillation meter are highlighting the starter time at 800ms.The correct time should be
500ms.

Figure 06

Refers to the KV wave form in the technique of 117KV/80mA/0.8mAs. The cursors of the
oscillation meter are highlighting the time of overshoot duration at 480µs.

Figure 07

Refers to the pulses in the Gates of the filament IGBTs in the D3-S plate. Note that the
pulses are unphased. The cursors of the oscillation meter are highlighting the work
frequency of the D3-S.

“Preparation” and after release, press “Discharge” for pulse display.
7.3- Adjust this pulse at 3.22 seconds.

8th STEP ATTENTION VERY IMPORTANT !!!

8.1- Disconnect the main circuit breaker! Connect the three-phase supply in the
inverter and monitor with the multi-meter on low charge. Observe always the
Led of D9-S plate in the inverter. If it is on will indicate load on the
capacitors. The low charge must go up to 194 VDC before the contactor
strikes ( 20s ). If the tension does not go up when monitoring the uprising of the
DC tension, disconnect everything before the contactor strikes (on the contrary
the contacts of the contactor will stick together), remove three-phase supply of
the inverter and search for eventual reasons. Verify Diazed fuses, internal
connections, network (some missing phase), etc.
Tip: within 10s the tension goes up to approximately 145VDC.

9th STEP

9.1- With the oscillation meter in the D6-S plate, read the actual KV. The grounding
point is the PT7 and PT6 of the actual KV reading.
9.2- Start the mAs calibrating. Select the technique of 40 KV, 80
mA,8mAs. Use the 1V/div. scale, time basis of 20ms/div,
trigger in uprising edge at 0,8V +/-.
9.3- Discharge.

9
9.4- Adjust the mAs acting in the trimpot relative to the selected technique, following
the below chart:

10th STEP:

Calibrating of the KV uprising and overshoot.

10.1- Select 60 KV, 500mA, 25mAs. Read in R13 resistor of the D6-S plate a tension
value of 2,64V . If this value is not found, calibrate in P3.
Trigger. If the KV increased correctly, go to the next step; if it not has gone up,
slowly change the calibrating until the KV increases correctly.
The limit is 3V. Refer to FIGURE 03.
10.2- For overshoot calibrating, select 109 KV, 80mA, 2mAs. Trigger. If there is no
overshoot, go up to the next KV.

Note: Never trigger 117KV, 80mA if there is some overshoot at 109KV.

10.3- Calibrate the overshoot with 117KV, 80mA, 0.8mAs varying the P4 trimpot of D6-
S.

Note: Display of the overshoot in (FIGURE 06).

11th STEP:

11.1- Finish the current calibrating, remembering that above 70 KV the calibrating
trimpots must be changed because we have a spatial charge, in this case, above
70KV, use the below trimpots:
11.1.1- 80mA - P11.
11.1.2- 125mA - P12.
11.1.3- 200mA - P13.
11.1.4- 250mA - P14.
11.1.5- 320mA - P15.

Note: To change the power limit of the equipment, the “jumper” of the D2-S plate (JP9,
JP10, JP11) must be verified. The change must be made with the general supply
disconnected, otherwise the power limit does not alternate.

3.3.2- Blocking of over-current: Measure in R45 and adjust in P3 the blocking
value 10% above the reference tension of the 500mA technique.
4th STEP

CALIBRATING D4-S PLATE

5.1- Adjust reference tension of braking time in P2. Measure in PT6

and adjust the value of 11,10V. The grounding point of D4-S is PT5.
5.2- Remove the K5 connector and when connecting it, time how long LD2 is on. Adjust
3s in the P2.

5th STEP

CALIBRATING D6-S PLATE

4.1- Adjust the pulse frequency of PT1 in 43,1KHz in P5 (FIGURE 04).

With the oscillation meter using the scale of 2V/div., time basis of 5µs and
trigger level in 1V. The grounding point of D6-S is the PT7.

6th STEP

6.1- Disconnect the main circuit breaker !

13
Replace the fuses F16, F17, F7 and F8 in D5-S and connect the equipment. Observe if
the Led LD1 of D5-S is on. If not, verify the connection of the K9 cable, likely it may be
inverted.

6.2- Verify with the Cathotest if the two focus are on. Use for current reading in the
Cathotest the multi-meter true RMS and adjust the stand-by current in 3,3 A in
P18 of D3-S. If not, disconnect and verify the filament cable, increasing the
pressure on the high tension terminals of the negative line and D3-S plate.
NOTE: The filament current wave form can be displayed on the R59 resistor of D3-S
according to FIGURE 01.
6.3- Adjust the starter time in the D4-S plate at PT4 in P1 with oscillation meter during
the PREPARATION. Adjust 500ms (FIGURE 05). Use the 5V/div. scale in the
oscillation meter with time basis of 100ms/div. and trigger at uprising edge on 9V.

NOTE: DO NOT MAKE EXPOSURE

7th STEP

CALIBRATING DISCHARGE MASTER BLOCKING IN THE D5-S PLATE.

7.1- With the oscillation meter at PT1, adjust the discharge master blocking in the R20
trimpot (the single one in the plate). Use the 5V/div. Scale, time basis of
500ms/div. and trigger at uprising edge (FIGURE 08). The grounding point of D5-
S is the C15 housing.
7.2- Select the technique of 40KV/80mA/0.4mAs. It is necessary to press

NOTE: within 10s the tension goes up to approximately 145VDC.

9th STEP

9.1- With the oscillation meter in the D6-S plate, read the actual KV. The grounding
point is the PT7 and PT6 of the actual KV reading. (20ms/div , 1V/div , trigger
800mv).
9.2- Start the mAs calibrating. Select the technique of 40 KV, 80
mA,8mAs. Use the 1V/div. scale, time basis of 20ms/div,
trigger in uprising edge at 0,8V +/-.
9.3- Make exposure.

14
9.4- Adjust the mAs acting in the trimpot relative to the selected technique, following
the below chart:

Chart of measured mAs:

Note: mAs measured according to the factory calibrating!

10th STEP:

Calibrating of the KV uprising and overshoot.

10.1- Select 60 KV, 500mA, 25mAs. Read in R13 resistor of the D6-S plate a tension
value of 1,50V . If this value is not found, calibrate in P3.
Trigger. If the KV increased correctly, go to the next step; if it not has gone up,
slowly change the calibrating until the KV increases correctly.
The limit is 1,8V.

15
ERROR CODE TABLE

16
