the importance of describing sequences in daily life. After gaining students’ attention the teacher
asks the following questions to activate students’ prior knowledge.

1. How many tenses are there in English?

2. How many forms of verb do we have in English?
3. What is Past tense?
4. What is regular and irregular form of verb?
5. What are the helping verbs we use in Past tense?

Presentation:

After activating students existing knowledge the teacher writes the topic on the board ‘Past
Tense’ and explains it with simple examples using adverbs of time indicating past time such as
yesterday, last night, ago, and before etc. for example

The simple past (also called past simple, past indefinite or preterit) is a verb tense which is used
to show that a completed action took place at a specific time in the past.

The simple past is formed using the verb + ed. In addition, there are many verbs with irregular
past forms. Questions are made with did and negative forms are made with did not.

Statement: You called Debbie last night.

Question: Did you call Debbie last night?

Negative: You did not call Debbie last night.

Practice:

Here, the students well be asked to change the verbs in brackets to the simple past. The verb
may be either in regular or irregular form. For example,

1) They all (go) ___ shopping.

2) I never (imagine) ____ I would see you here.

3) We (book) ___ two tickets for the show.

recap some of the main points again and then assign them home work as to write down a story of
200 words on past incident of their life. At the end the teacher wind up his class by saying
