TITLE : LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

AUTHOR/ ILLUSTRATOR : BROTHERS GRIMM/ JERRY PINKNEY

CHARACTERS : LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

GRANDMOTHER

BIG BAD WOLF

SETTINGS : DURING AUTUMN IN THE WOODS

PLOT :

The dear old grandma has come to Red Riding Hood's home, hearing a present
for her grandchild which she has made herself. This is a beautiful hood made in
granny's cleverest and most loving way. Little Red Riding Hood is charmed by it, and
expresses her joy freely. Granny then goes home to her lonely hut in the woods,
escorted by her niece. One beautiful autumn afternoon little Red Riding Hood is sent by
her mother to take some goodies to Grandma. She repairs on her way, but grows tired
and sits to rest under a tree. She stops and dreams the well-known story: How a wolf
in the guise of a friendly dog came and asked her where she was going. She told him,
and the said wise wolf sped to granny's cot in a shorter direction. Arriving there he
satisfied his wolfish appetite on poor grandma's aged carcass and donning her night
cap took her place in the bed. Little Red Riding Hood appears and enters the bedroom,
gladsomely exhibiting her presents. The wary wolf, after a confidential chat, jumps at
her. She screams, her father, the woodsman, and his trusty men rush in, dispatch the
wolf and save her. Awakened suddenly by her own screams Red Riding Hood cannot
break the spell of that awful dream. So she goes timidly to the cottage, peeks
cautiously in at the window, finding granny alive and well.

BEGINNING :

Everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood, because she always wore a red
riding hood. It had been given to her by her grandmother, who loved the little girl very
much. One day Little Red Riding Hood's mother said, “Here, child, take this basket to
your grandmother.

RISING ACTION :

The girl began walking towards her grandmother’s cabin. She had never really
gone all the way alone. Red liked how the forest looked, there was just something
about it that made her feel at peace. While being distracted by the view, she failed to
notice a large shadow behind her. Red looked back and saw it, trying to grab the
basket. She tried running away but it spoke to her. “ Oh, I am so sorry I did not mean
to scare you. I just wondered why someone like you was all alone in a place like this”.
Her being young and trusting told him everything. He got what he wanted and ran off,
leaving Red a little bit confused but she just kept walking.
CLIMAX :

Little Red comments on the wolf’s nose, eyes, ears and teeth, and he responds
by eating her in one gulp.

FALLING ACTION :

The Big Bad wolf happily let the grandmother go. The girl was in complete
shock, unable to move, unable to say what she really wanted to. He slowly approached
her and put a collar around his new pet. They then left the house, walking towards his
place, that would soon become her new, not so sweet, home. The grandmother quickly
tried getting someone to help but no one would. Red spent the whole time quiet,
regretting her choice but at the same time she didn’t want her grandmother to be hurt
because of her. She regretted being so trustful of someone she just met. The girl
regretted everything.

ENDING :

The woodsman knocked out the wolf and carried him deep into the forest where
he wouldn't bother people any longer. Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother had
a nice lunch and a long chat.

MORAL OF THE STORY :

The Moral of Little Red Riding Hood is that you must never trust
strangers. Even a very friendly stranger may have very bad intentions. Little
Red Riding Hood finds herself in danger because she talks to the wolf and naively
points out the direction of her grandmother’s house.
