Module 6 Workshop

ACTIVITIES FOR WORKSHOP 6


Welcome back! Here’s a preview of the activities for this workshop – your LAST workshop.
Time required will also depend on your team size.

EQ CHECK IN MORE PEER REVIEWS (25 MINUTES)

If you are taking this course as a team, start your workshop with the EQ Check-In. Then, spend
some time together reviewing videos submitted by other course participants for Assignment 5.

PERSONAL LIBRARY OF STORIES (30 MINUTES)

You’ll share your personal ‘library’ of stories that you have started to build. You’ll learn from
each others’ work and reflect on your own.

NEXT STEPS / ACTION PLANS (15 MINUTES)

You’ll share your reflections on your strengths, areas for improvement and next opportunities to
practice storytelling. You’ll discuss in your team how you can ensure that you will find
opportunities to apply what you’ve learned here and continue your work to become a more
effective storyteller for change.

EQ CHECKIN AND MORE PEER REVIEWS (25 MIN)

Complete the EQ Check-In as a team (10 min)

The team facilitator can ask these questions to the team:

• How are you feeling?


• How present do you feel? (in terms of %)
• What is going on for you personally or professionally that is preventing you from being
100% present?

Reviewing other participants’ videos together

If your team has a computer with internet access during this workshop, visit the Assignment 5
page and click ‘View All Submissions’ to review other course participants’ videos together. Use
the same feedback criteria (available on the next page) and leave comments as a team on at least
3 videos.

If your team wants to give special kudos to any of the videos you’ve reviewed, please share them
in the Course Discussions > ‘Celebrating other learners’ thread.

Reflecting on your journey within this course

Lastly, spend some time reflecting on what you have learned and have done during the past few
weeks.

FEEDBACK RUBRIC FOR PEER REVIEWS
Use this rubric to evaluate 3 different stories.

• Always begin with one or two things that are working well for the presenter Endorse
before giving constructive feedback
• Then invite the presenter to consider changing one aspect of what he/she has presented
(i.e. something that might be done differently, improved or enhanced)

Is the story supporting the key message?

The story clearly relates to and underscores the presenter’s key message.

Does the presenter use the storytelling techniques introduced in the course?

The presenter is using many or all of the following skills:

• Viscerally re-experience the moment Provide lots of sensory details


• Use the present tense
• Use “bullet phrases”/avoid using connecting words
• Play different roles without lots of “she said/he said”

Are appropriate visuals/props used?

The visuals or props were effective in supporting the story and bringing it to life, making it
clearer or more emotionally powerful.

Does the presenter inspire you to action?

The story and other information presented inspires you to follow this presenter and his or her
ideas around his/her change initiative.

• Were you aware of him or her using Passionate Purpose?


• If the presenter’s voice and body language were congruent with their content, make sure
you give them positive feedback!
PERSONAL LIBRARY OF STORIES

Prepare to share (5 minutes)

Please have your notes from the reading’s ‘Building Your Personal “Library” of Stories’ ready
so you can share your work. Remember, there are different reasons why we tell stories (see
below). We can employ
a range of story types too--using from personal to personal business to impersonal business to
universal myths or fables.

The reasons why we tell stories:

• Teach a Lesson
• Motivate Change
• Change the Frame

What type of stories are easiest for you to prepare for? Why? What types of stories are most
difficult to prepare?

What question would you like to ask your peers during this discussion so that you can be more
effective building your personal library of stories?

Share and reflect (25 minutes)

Share what you currently have in your notes and learn from each other’s work.
Share ideas for how you might take this personal library forward so that all the work you’ve
done in this

Congratulations! This was your last workshop for the course. Please spend this time
acknowledging and congratulating each other as you reflect on your course.

YOUR FINAL ASSIGNMENT
Now that you’ve completed your final discussion, you’re ready to complete your final
assignment.

For your final assignment, you’ll create a summary deck (as a PDF) of your final story and your
journey throughout the course.

Your summary deck should include:

• A cover page.
• At least one slide with the written version of your story.
• Your visual aids and/or images of your props.
• A slide noting your strengths.
• A slide noting your areas for improvement.

At least one slide with your reflections and takeaways from the course. You can respond to any
or all of these questions:

• How has your approach to storytelling and speaking changed?


• How will you express yourself differently after taking this course?
• How will you talk about social purposes different? What new tools will you use when
talking about social impact?
• How will you use these lessons about storytelling, speaking, and leadership presence in
your current work?
