Demonstration Lesson Plan for TLE 8 – CARPENTRY (Exploratory Course)

I. Objective:
LESSON 3: PERFORM MENSURATION AND CALCULATION (MC)
LO1 Students will learn how to calculate the volume of lumber using the board foot equation
LO2 Distinguish the importance of Board Foot
LO3 Compute the Price per Board Foot from local Lumber Yard

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Board Foot - It is the volume of a one-foot length of a board one foot wide and one
inch thick.
Materials: LED TV, Laptop, pieces of woods , Pull-push Roll

 Where can we buy these carpentry materials? Do you know local lumber yards in our
local marketplace?

B. Explaining to students what to do

 This morning we are going to learn about board foot, its’ usage and how does wood are
acquired.
 Learning to compute board foot on wood is very important because this will give you
ideas in acquiring wood and how valuable wood are.
 Present the objectives to the class and share the formula of obtaining the volume of
piece of wood.

C. Teaching/Modeling

 Power point presentation/discussion of the lesson

 Teacher ask questions to students and keep them actively engaged in the discussion

D. Guided Practice

 The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups

 Each group will be assigned to measure a certain piece of wood by its Thickness, Width
and Length.
 Have them publish, explain and share their work to the class.

E. Independent Practice

 Compute the different woods bought in the different Lumber Yards in our marketplaces
 Individual output will be evaluated using the rubrics.

F. Closure:

Can anybody tell me what we learned today?

IV. Assessment:
Compute for the Board Foot and Price per Board Foot
1. Cadiong Lumber Yard, 2 x 2 x 10 Gmelina @120.00
2. Salili Lumber Yard, 1 x 2 x 8 Mahogany @60.00
3. Encarguez Lumber Yard, 2 x 2 x 8 Narra @250.00
