Blowing Out Cake Candle Can Increase Bacteria Level

By 1,400%

When you eat a slice of birthday cake, you could be consuming a lot of extra germs, too.
A study recently published in the Journal of Food Research examined the potential spread
of germs when blowing out candles on a birthday cake.
Participants ate pizza to create a party atmosphere, then blew out candles on a cake. The
icing was then tested and the results suggested bacteria levels increased by 1,400 percent.
A report on the study says oral bacteria is transferred to a cake’s icing for some research
said that the mouth is the dirtiest part of the body , so when the candles are blown out and then
the bacteria is spread through consumption when other people eat the cake.
However, lead author of the study, Paul Dawson, told The Atlantic, “It’s not a big health
concern in my perspective”.
Dawson just advises people to use their common sense and don’t blow out candles if you
are sick.
