The Great Pyramids of Egypt
The Great Pyramids of Egypt
1. How was management applied during the construction of the Great Pyramids?
-are the controversial subject of many hypotheses. These techniques seem to have
developed over time; later pyramids were not constructed in the same way as earlier ones. Most
of the construction hypotheses are based on the belief that huge stones were carved from quarries
with copper chisels, and these blocks were then dragged and lifted into position. Disagreements
chiefly concern the methods used to move and place the stones.
In addition to the many unresolved arguments about the construction techniques, there
have been disagreements as to the kind of workforce used. The Greeks, many years after the
event, believed that the pyramids must have been built by slave labor. Archaeologists now
believe that the Great Pyramid of Giza (at least) was built by tens of thousands of skilled workers
who camped near the pyramids and worked for a salary or as a form of tax payment (levy) until
the construction was completed, pointing to workers' cemeteries discovered in 1990 by
archaeologists Zahi Hawass and Mark Lehner. For the Middle Kingdom Pyramid of Amenemhat
II, there is evidence from the annal stone of the king that foreigners from Canaan were used.
Manager’s Types
Questions:
1. What do you think should be the skills for each type of manager? Discuss them
briefly.
-Technical skills are more important for low-level managers than for those at the
top of the chain. If you're angling for your first managerial spot, it's crucial that you
demonstrate a keen understanding of the business as a whole. Many companies promote
their managers from within for this very purpose. You can't oversee a team of IT
professionals if you're lost when it comes to navigating your company's programming
systems. No sales manager can be effective if he doesn't know how to close a sale.
Your industry knowledge and experience should guide all those whom you
oversee, helping them to achieve higher levels of success. Managers are often called upon
to provide training and coaching for their employees. You should be able to impart
useful wisdom and handy trade secrets that will help your team excel.
Aspects include clarification of the task and scope of the process. Clarification of
the employee’s role and clarification around how the success of the task will be measured
are key aspects in this model. The leader also is involved in guidance and coaching
surrounding the goal and removes obstacles for employees that might affect the
completion of the task. The path goal theory says that if employees are satisfied by the
leadership style, they will be motivated toward the goals of leadership. Part of the model
also stresses that the skills, experience, and environmental contingencies of the job play a
role in the success of the leader.
