When I got into college in 2013, start-up culture was slowly getting into pace.
I, being new to this
whole concept was fascinated by the idea of how startups were providing business solutions to an existing problem or filling a service gap that existed in the present system. This whole culture got a boon with incoming of 4G, everyone was talking about e-commerce, e-wallets which were primarily leading this whole venture. As NIT Uttarakhand was new there was a need for such a committee, even though we used to organize workshop and events for motivating student for innovating but there was no platform to support and guide them in long run. So, during my fourth year of graduation, I along with other members of the event organizing team discussed the feasibility of an Entrepreneurship cell with innovation chairperson. He asked us to build a draft around its functioning, feasible events, and other aspects. We organized workshop by NIESBUD, for getting insight into functioning of start-up incubators and how the government is supporting start-up culture. Then as per research and suggestion gained by us, we created a draft for E-cell and by the end of the semester, it was approved by the Director of NIT Uttarakhand. Which was really a big achievement for us and as well as the institute. Also, I have done 4 months internship in a start-up which was operating in a start-up incubator of Ahmedabad University, therefore have a glimpse of the opportunities, learning, and contribution that can happen in such a conducive environment. After work, in such diverse environments, I want to experience and learn from working off a full- fledged incubator as a whole. Where Events like Start-O-Sphere, Stayin Alive Entrepreneurship, Dhanda give a real glimpse of management in the application and allow us to learn from events and then innovate and implement further. Especially the concept of UNARUKA the women entrepreneur summit is great, this shows that how ingrained diversity is in IIM Kozhikode’s values that we are organizing events for empowering women at every level. I’ll hope you give me the chance to contribute to the continuing success of the E-cell through my skill set, which I will look to further develop during my time there.
