Safety Information

Symbol What it means


This UV RADIATION sticker is used to refer to a position on the Water System
Cabinet or inside of it where exposure to UV light is possible.

This DANGER sticker is used to refer to a position on the Water System


Cabinet or inside of it that could be hazardous.

This ELECTRICAL GROUND sticker is used to refer to a position on the Water


System Cabinet or inside where an electrical ground connection is made.

This ELECTRICAL DANGER sticker is used to refer to a position on the Water


System Cabinet or inside where an electrical danger could exist.

The Water System must be connected to a source of electrical


power that is earth grounded. Before the system is serviced,
unplug the electrical power cord.
The Water System must be powered OFF before plugging in or
removing any components on the Electronic board(s).

Overview of Smart Range Systems Upload

The Smart Uploader V3.0 is a computer program that must be used when performing one
of the following cases on a Smart range Direct-Q, RiOs-DI, RiOs, Synergy, Simplicity or
ICW-3000 system.

Important: A new PC Board does not have any software or calibration data on it.

Note: The LWD Test Bench Manager Database is very large. It is advisable not to
replicate a local copy but instead download a calibration file using a network
connection only when required.

Tools Needed:
1. A Computer (with Windows XP or Windows 7).
2. An RS232 Serial Port on the Computer (or a validated RS232/USB Adaptor, refer to the
How to Order a Dell Docking Station on page 14 or Other RS232 Adaptors on page
16 of this guide.

Installing Smart Uploader Software

The Smart Uploader V3.0 Software is required for Smart Range System uploads.

About this task


The Smart Uploader V3.0 tool is a computer program used to upload Software and
Calibration files onto Smart Range System PC Boards. The installation setup file
SmartUploaderSetupV3.exe needs to be installed on your computer in order to use the
Smart Programmer V3.0 tool.
Note: Before installing the Smart Uploader V3.0, make sure that any old versions of
the Smart Uploader have been uninstalled (if previously installed on your computer).
In order to Install or Uninstall Programs you must be logged on as an Administrator.
Important: You must be fully logged into your SADM account and not use the Run
as administrator feature.

Procedure
1. To Log On Using Your SADM Account.
a) Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and select Switch User.
Note: Make sure you have saved all work before commencing.

b) Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on.


c) Select Switch User.
d) Log on using your SADM (Administrator) credentials.
You are now logged on as an Administator.

2. To Remove Previous Versions of the Smart Uploader From Your Laptop.


a) In Windows Explorer navigate to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items >
Programs and Features
b) Right click on the Old Smart Uploader in the list.
c) Select Uninstall/Change.
d) If still present, delete the old Smart Uploader Shortcut icon from your desktop.
The Old Smart Uploader will have been uninstalled.

3. To Install the Smart Uploader V3.0 On Your Laptop.


Important: If you are not fully logged on as an Administrator the Installation of
the Smart Uploader will fail.
a) On the Field Service Support Database navigate to Software > Smart Platform >
Uploader Software.
b) Double clik on the SmartUploaderSetupV3.exe file on the database and select
Save.
c) Choose a location to save the SmartUploaderSetupV3.exe file to your laptop.

d) Navigate to the SmartUploaderSetupV3.exe file on your laptop and double click
to start the installation.

e) Select the destination folder and Click on Next.


f) When the installation is completed, click on Finish.

The Smart Uploader V3 is now installed and a shortcut will have been placed on your
desktop.

What to do next
Log off from your SADM Account and log back on using your normal account credentials.

Downloading Software File

A Software file is needed in all cases for Upload and is found on the Field Service Support
Database.

About this task


The Software File is the operating system of the device, to download the file.

Procedure
1. Go to the Field Service Support Database.

2. In the Field Service Support Database navigate to Software > Smart Platform >
System Software and select the correct system type.

In the example above software version V3.80 for a Direct-Q or RiOs-DI has been
selected.
3. Double clik on the Software file (.s19) on the database and select Save.
4. Choose a location to save the file on your laptop.

The Software File has been saved to your Laptop.

Downloading Calibration file

Calibration files can be downloaded from the LWD Test Bench Manager Database.

About this task


The calibration file (.cal) contains the default calibration values specific to the system.
Note: The LWD Test Bench Manager Database is very large. It is advisable not to
replicate a local copy but instead download a calibration file using a network
connection only when required.
To download a calibration file:

Procedure
1. Go to the LWD Test Bench Manager Database.

Note: If you do not have the icon on your Lotus Notes Wokspace, then go to: File
> Open > Lotus Notes Application. In the Open Aplication Pop-up, change the
Look in: to Strasbourg01/EU/Millipore or WWApps01/NA/Millipore and from the
list select LWD Test Bench Manager Prod.nsf.

2. Click on the button Create a calibration file *.cal.

3. Click on:
• 1 - Choose system.
Select your system by selecting the catalogue number then the lot number followed
by the serial number (click on the arrows). In some cases, a second folder has been
created and is designated with a "C" after the catalogue number. If you cannot find
the calibration file in the first folder it will be located in this folder.
Note: Refer to the Catalogue Numbers reference list at the end of this
document if needed.

• Create the file.cal


The calibration file is automatically saved on your C:\ drive. The filename contains
the catalogue, lot and serial numbers.
For example a file named: ZRQSVP030 - F5EN91285 - F5EN91285I.cal is a Direct Q 3
UV from lot F5EN91285 and its serial number is F5EN91285I.

Connecting Smart Uploader Cable

A connection between the laptop and the Smart Range System through the Smart
Uploader Cable is needed to perform an upload.

About this task


The Smart Uploader Cable, catalogue number FTPF07908, is needed to connect a laptop
to a system. The cable has a 4-pin Molex connector for connecting to the system PCB and
a 9-pin RS232 connector for connecting to a laptop.
Note: If your computer does not have an RS232 port, refer to the ordering
information for How to Order a Dell Docking Station if based in Europe or the US or
for all other Countries see information about Other RS232 Adaptors.

Procedure
1. Unplug the power cable of the system (behind the system).
Important: Make sure the cable is not plugged in to a source of electric power.

2. Locate and unscrew the 4 screws at the back of the system. Remove the back cover so
you can access the inside of the system.

3. Locate the 4-pin Molex output on the PC Board. This is located on the left side of the
power entry module and to the right side of the tank level sensor cable.

4. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector of the Smart Uploader Cable to the 4-pin Molex
output on the PC Board. Connect the RS 232 connector to the Laptop.

Results
The Smart Uploader Cable is now connected.
Important: DO NOT power on the system yet.

How to Order a Dell Docking Station
An RS232 port is required for the use of Uploader tools. Docking stations are available for
European and US FSE's.

About this task


If your laptop does not include an RS232 port, then you should use the following
accessories to add an RS232 port to your laptop.

Important: The uploader cable CANNOT be connected properly to the Docking


Station without the extension lead.
Both items are available from Oracle iProcurement (DELL B2B Store), make sure
you have access and follow the procedure below:

Procedure
1. Type the following address into Internet Explorer: http://

Other RS232 Adaptors
An RS232 port is required for the use of Uploader tools. FSEs without access to
iProcurement can order a USB to RS232 port.

About this task


If you do not have an RS232 port on your laptop, a standard USB to Serial adaptor can be
used.

The following procedure should be followed:

1. Install adaptor's driver as per instructions.
2. Open Control Panel.

3. Open Device Manager.

Note: If you are not logged in using your SADM account you will get a message
to say you are logged in as a standard user. If you need to make changes to
settings you must be logged on with Administrator rights.
4. Expand Ports.
5. Check that the RS232/USB adaptor is associated with COM1 and the name of the
adaptor on the installation CD or on the adaptor's box, compares with the name in
Ports. If not, please refer to the Troubleshooting section

6. If the adaptor still cannot be found, re-install the adaptor's driver or contact your local IT
support.

Uploading Software

Procedure for upgrading Smart software or uploading software to a new Smart system
PCB.

About this task

Important: If you are uploading software to a new Smart system PCB you will also
have to upload the calibration file.
Before performing the software upload you must have:
• Installed the Smart Uploader V3.0 tool on your computer
• Obtained the corresponding Software File from the LW FSS Database
• Obtained the Calibration File from the LWD Test Bench Manager Database (if uploading
software to a new PCB)
• Connected the Smart Uploader Cable between the system and the computer.
Important: Make sure your laptop is connected to the water system before running
the Smart Uplaoder. If not you will get the following error message.

Procedure
1. Start the Smart Uploader V3.0.
2. Plug the system power cord into the power outlet.

3. Click on Connect Device.

Important: There is a 10 second window for completing this step.

The system display should look like this.

4. Go to the File Identification part of the uploader tool and click on Load File.

An 'Open file pop-up box' will open.

5. Select the system software file (file type.s19) and click on Open.
Note: This is the Software file copied from the Field Service Support Database.

The File name section of the Smart programmer tool becomes populated with the file
location information.
6. Click on Device Configuration.

A 'Smart configuration' pop-up box opens.

7. Select your system type and check the UV present box if your system has a UV. Cick
Ok.

The Smart configuration pop-up box closes and the 'Smart Model' box in the Smart
Programmer is automatically populated.

8. Click on Prog. Device.

9. The Smart Uploader V3.0 will start to program the PC Board.

This step will take about 90 seconds to be completed.

Results
The upload is completed and a pop-up is displayed.

What to do next
Important: If you are replacing the PCB then DO NOT disconnect. Proceed to follow
the instructions for uploading the calibration file.
If you are just uploading a new version of software onto an existing PCB then click
'Disconnect Device'.

After disconnecting, the system restarts automatically and can be used.

Uploading Calibration File

Procedure for loading a Calibration File onto a new Smart system PCB.

About this task


The information below is a step by step procedure of how to upload a Calibration File to a
Smart Platform System PCB.
Important: You must have followed the procedure for Uploading Software onto the
PCB BEFORE proceeding with the following steps.

Procedure
1. In the Smart Uploader V3.0 click on Load File.

2. Browse your computer and select the Calibration File that you want to upload. This is
the file you downloaded from the LWD Test Bench Manager Database and has a .cal
file extension.

3. Click on Open.
The file that you choose from your computer is now listed in the Smart Uploader.
4. Click on Upload Config.

The Calibration File is uploaded to the Smart Water System.

5. Click on Disconnect Device.

Results
The Water System restarts automatically. The Water System is now ready for use. The
upload of the calibration file is done.

System Type Verification

How to verify System Type for Smart Range Systems.


The system will have an incorrect behaviour if the system type is wrong.The System Type
is the second Display Screen shown after powering ON the system.
The system type code is made of 3 digits:

Troubleshooting RS232 Issues

Some Laptop settings are needed for RS232 connections.

About this task


A timeout error can be caused by a faulty cable connection as well as a communication
port issue.
If a standard RS232/USB adaptor is used, it MUST BE to be associated to COM1. If it is
associated with a different COM port, then the following procedure should be followed.
Note: The Docking Station, E-Legacy Port, ALWAYS uses COM1.

Procedure
1. Log on as an Administrator using your SADM account, as described in the Installing
Smart Uploader Software section.
2. Open the "Device Manager" as described in the Other RS232 Adaptors section.
3. In "Ports", right click on the RS232/USB port
4. Select Properties
5. Select the Port Settings tab
Note: This is also where the speed settings can be modified.

6. Click on Advanced.
7. Select COM1 in the COM Port number list, even if COM1 is already used.
8. Close the different windows with OK buttons.
