 Assume any data suitably and solve by WSM.
 For M20 grade Concrete σcbc = 7 N/mm2 and for Fe 415 σst = 230 N/mm2

1. Determine the moment of resistance of a singly reinforced beam 160 mm wide and
300 mm wide deep to the centre of reinforcement. If the stresses in concrete and steel
are not to exceed 5 N/mm2 and 140 N/mm2 respectively. The reinforcement consists
of 4 bars of 16 mm diameter. Take m = 18. If the above beam is used over an
effective span of 5 m. Find the maximum load the beam can carry, inclusive its own
weight.

OR

A reinforced concrete beam section of size 300 mm x 700 mm effective depth is

reinforced with 3 bars of 20 mm dia bars in tension. Determine the moment of resistance.
The concrete mix and HYD steel reinforcement used are of grades M20 and Fe 415
respectively. If the effective span of the beam is 5 m. Determine the maximum
superimposed uniformly distributed load the beam can carry safely. 10

2. Design a reinforced rectangular beam to resist a bending moment of 200 kN-m. The
width of the beam is to be kept 450 mm. Use M20 concrete and Fe415 steel. 10

3. A rectangular beam 300 mm x 600 mm (effective depth) consists of 4 nos 25 mm dia

steel, if the beam is Simply supported over a span of 8 m and carries UDL 25 kN/m
inclusive self weight. Calculate the stresses developed take m = 15. 10

4. An R.C.C beam of size 350 x 700 mm overall depth. M20 and Fe 415 steel is used.
Calculate area of steel required for a bending moment of 200 kN-m. Calculate
Moment of reistance of the balanced section and area of steel required for the same.
