a. Nosepiece e. Clips
b. Eyepiece f. Coarse adjustment
c. Condenser g. Body tube
d. Stage h. Fine adjustment

(b) High power magnification

i. Low-power
j. Centre
k. Nosepiece

Practical: Examining onion epidermal cells

Results:

Discussion:
1. To avoid the trapping of air bubbles and prevent the overlapping of epidermal
cells.
2. The iodine solution acts as a stain to make some structures more conspicuous
(to show up more clearly).
3. It reduces water loss of the specimen and prevents the objective lens from
getting wet.
4. The cheek cells have no cell wall, but the onion epidermal cells have cell
walls; the cheek cells are irregular in shape, but the onion epidermal cells are
regular in shape.
