3. An organic compound on analysis gave the following data: C=57.82%, H=3.6%, and the rest is
oxygen. Its vapour density is 83. Find its empirical and molecular formula.
4. A compound on analysis gave the following percentage composition: Na=14.31%, S=9.97%,
H=6.22%, O=69.5%. Calculate the molecular formula of the compound on the assumption that
all the hydrogen in the compound is present in combination with oxygen as water of
crystallization. Molecular mass of the compound is 322.
5. A chemical compound is found to have the following composition: K=42.5%; Fe=15.2%,
C=19.5% and N=22.8%. Calculate the simplest formula of the compound.
6. An oxide of nitrogen with molecular mass 92 has 30.4% nitrogen. What is the molecular
formula?
7. Calculate the empirical formula of a compound whose percentage composition is: C=21.9%,
H=4.6%, Br=73.4%.

=49% rest being water of crystallization. Find the empirical formula of the compound.

glucose and water.
15. A solution contains 25% water, 25% ethanol and 50% acetic acid by mass. Calculate the mole
fraction of each component.
16. H2SO4 used in lead storage cell is 38% by mass and has a density of 1.30g cm -3. Calculate its
molarity and molality.
17. Commercially available concentrated hydrochloric acid contains 38% HCl by mass and has
density 1.19g cm-3. Calculate the molarity and molality of the solution.
18. Calculate the molality and mole fraction of each component in a 10% (w/w) solution of
glucose. If the density of solution is 1.2 g ml-1, then what shall be the molarity of the solution?
19. Calculate the mole fraction of ethanol and water in a sample of rectified sprit which contains
46% ethanol by mass.
20. A commercially available sample of H2SO4 is 15% by mass. Its density is 1.10g cm -3. Calculate
its molarity and molality.
