Cell School Analogies Project
Cell School Analogies Project
To understand the different parts of a cell and their functions, we will compare a cell to a school.
We will use analogies to compare a specific part of the cell to a specific part of the school.
For example: The nucleus of the cell is like the principal’s office in a school because the
nucleus directs the activities of the cell similar to how a principal directs activities in a
school.
1. Protein is an important product of a cell, and numerous parts in the cell interact with
protein. To set up your analogies correctly you need to determine what the school is
“making.” This will be your protein.
The protein is like __________________ in a school because proteins are made in the
cells similar to how ___________________ are made in a school.
2. List different parts of the school and what you think their functions are. Be creative. You
may want numerous parts in the school to give yourself options when you start your cell
analogies.
Required parts include: nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplasts,
lysosome, and mitochondria

4. Draw and color a floor plan of your school. You can use plain white paper or grid
paper.
5. Create a color-coded key that identifies the part of the school and the part of cell.
