I highly recommend Shalene Baratta as a candidate for the position of Elementary Technology Specialist/Teacher. I’ve
had the pleasure of working with Shalene for the past eleven years. She is innovative, motivated, and organized. She
establishes a wonderful rapport with her students by developing genuine relationships and using consistent
expectations.

Shalene is the first teacher in our building to transition her instruction to iPads from traditional methods. She has
successfully used 1-to-1 iPads in her classroom for the past eight years. Additionally, she mentors teachers in the
building and district when they add tablets to their classroom.

Shalene serves on the building technology team. She is responsible for researching the technology and software
purchased for use by building students and teachers. When new technology is introduced Shalene is the teacher-
trainer. She makes herself available to assist anybody who needs help learning the new equipment.

This year Shalene is one of five teachers piloting Promethean Boards in the classroom. She serves as the point of contact
between the district technology department and the building’s teachers. Her technological expertise was recognized
when she was selected to be one of only three STEM Lab leaders in our school. Her responsibilities include setting up
the lab and training staff.

Shalene has taught next to me for years. I’ve enjoyed watching her unique rapport with her students. Her lessons are
interesting and her students are engaged. She continually looks for ways to make her lessons fresh and appealing.

Shalene is an asset to any organization.
