WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY?
Christianity is a worldwide religious tradition with diverse representations, beliefs and practices.
But its common source is one: the life, the teachings, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus

THE BEGINNING OF CHRISTIANITY

Christianity began in the 1st century AD after Jesus died as a Jewish sect in Judea but quickly
spread throughout the Roman empire. As a movement within Judaism during the first century C.E
This is the origin of the name “Jesus Christ” and led to Jesus' followers being called “Christians.”

Sacred Text of Christianity: The Bible

Christianity combines the Jewish Old Testament with the New Testament to form the Christian
Bible, which followers refer to as the Holy Scriptures. There are many noncanonical texts in the
Christian religion as well. Protestants believe in the preeminence of the Holy Scriptures, as the
Reformation was a return to the early days of Christianity prior to the policies and creeds developed
by the Catholic Church hierarchy.

A Brief History Of The Christianity

 Apostle’s Creed: Most widely used in Christian worship in the western world. Throughout
the Middle Ages it was generally believed that this creed was composed by the Apostles
on the day of Pentecost and that each of them contributed one of the twelve sections. This
appears to be a legend dating back to somewhere between the 4th and 6th Centuries.
- Have had three uses, first as a confession of faith for those about to be baptised,
secondly as a catechism (an instruction for new Christians in the essentials of the faith),
and thirdly, as a ‘rule of faith’ to give continuity to orthodox Christian doctrine
 Nicene Creed: (Also called Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed) a Christian statement of
faith that is the only ecumenical creed because it is accepted as authoritative by the Roman
Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and major Protestant churches
 Athanasian Creed: (also known as the Quicunque Vult - the first two words of the Latin is
taken from the opening words, "Whosoever wishes". ) Christian statement of belief
focused on Trinitarian doctrine and Christology
- Whosoever will be saved , before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic
Faith. Which Faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he
shall perish everlastingly.

Beliefs of Christianity
 The Bible is the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative written Word of God, penned
by man with the leading of the Holy Spirit.
 There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit.
 Christians believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless
life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His
ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal, future return to this earth in power
and glory to rule a thousand years.
 The blessed hope in the rapture of the Church at Christ's coming. The Church is all who
believe in Jesus as their Savior.
 The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious
blood of Christ. Good works alone will not get you into heaven, although good works
should follow those who believe.
 We believe in water baptism by immersion. This is a public display of the authenticity of
your repentance.
 Spiritual healing and deliverance comes by the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.
Isaiah 53:5b says, "By His wounds we are healed."
 The baptism of the Holy Spirit is given to all believers at the moment of salvation. God
desires us to have a personal relationship with Him and through His Holy Spirit, we
communicate with Him.
 Christians believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit's indwelling. The Christian
can live a holy life.
 The beliefs of Christianity state the resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to
everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. Then Jesus will establish His eternal
kingdom.

God in Christianity
 God in Christianity is the eternal being who created and preserves all
things. Christians believe God to be both transcendent (wholly independent of, and
removed from, the material universe) and immanent (involved in the world).
Basic Doctrines of Christianity:
 Repetance from Acts that Lead to God: Means to turn away from sin and turn to God
 Faith In God: Believing God's promises, trusting in his faithfulness, and relying on God's
character and faithfulness to act.
 Instructions About Baptism: The forms and rituals of the various Christian churches
 The Laying on of Hands: Is a biblical action; however, there is no biblical mandate
requiring the physical laying on of hands for a particular spiritual ministry.
 Resurrection of the Death: Is the concept of coming back to life after death.
 Eternal Judgement: the people in every nation resulting in the glorification of some and
the punishment of others.
Christian Moral Code Origins:
 An extension of an earlier code given to the descendants of Jacob (renamed Israel),
who lived in the Middle East area many generations before Christ.
 According to the Bible, the Israelites received their formal moral code in a set of
laws

Christian Code Principles:

 Love God with everything you have; love your neighbor the same way you love yourself.
 Everything that is right is in line with those two statements, and everything that is wrong
runs contrary to those statements.
 The most important principles involves the relationship between the Christians and God.
The christian God requires that his people love God with all their heart and soul
