Materials: list any materials that are necessary for this lesson (make sure to include a backup)
 Apple tree paintings (previously done the day before by the students)
 Pom Poms
 Dice
 Wet glue
Activity: Describe how you will introduce the materials and the activity that the children will do
1. Talk about the trees that we made the previous day together and explain that all of our trees
are different. In this lesson we will be putting apples on our tree. Have you ever seen an apple
tree? What color apples grow on apple trees?
2. Explain that we will play a game and each student at the table gets a turn. Model the game.
-In the game they will roll a die, and count the dots on the die. They will take their glue, make
the dots on the tree, and put pomp oms on their glue dots.
3. After modeling the game, remind the children that each friend gets a turn to roll the die, and
we will wait for our turn.
4. The teacher may write the number above their tree example (or on a sticky note) to show
how many apples are on the apple tree.
5. ** we will put apples on the threes for EVERY die roll that EACH child does. The tree should
then be filled with apples. We will count the apples on the tree once all children have had a
turn)
Assessment: Identify how you will assess the children’s learning for a variety of levels (early, middle,
later); consider how you will record their learning and how you will evaluate their progress

Early: Student points to the dots on the die. Student counts along with teacher prompts and
assistance during their turn.

Middle: Child can count with 1 to 1 correspondence on the die. Student can dot the tree with the
correct number of apples with little teacher assistance.

Later: Child can count with 1 to 1 correspondence on the die and transfer the same amount of dots to
apples on their apple tree with no teacher assistance.

Instruction: Identify how you will help move a child from early to middle. Think about what you will
say and do to support new knowledge or skills.
- count and emphasize counting of the numbers with 1 to 1 correspondence
-write the number using dots on the top of their paper
- count with the child
