IX RUBRICS FOR THE PORTFOLIO

Brief history of Juban National High School

In the line with Article XIV of 1987 Philippine constitution stating that “that the state
shall promote the right of the citizen to quality education at all levels and shall take
appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all ,” Juban National High School in
Cogon Juban, Sorsogon was established in 1999.Its opening was a real struggle on the part
of prime movers , the Local Government Unit of Juban, then headed by Hon. Manuel L .
Olondris and His council considering the indifference and antagonistic reaction of Private
schools with it. In the end, however challenges were overcome and the school was
established as extensions of Biriran national High School, Biriran, Juban, Sorsogon which
was established in 1978.

Juban National High School seats along the national road in cogon juban
sorsogon. With School ID No. 302187,it is more less a kilometer ride from the poblacion. Its
strategic location make it the biggest secondary school in the m,unicipality. The nearest
public elementary feader school of Juban National High School is just 25 meters away from
it,the cogon elementary school. There are two private schools within the same municipality,
Juban Institue is around six kilometers away from the vescudero foundation school is about
1.5 kilometers from JNHS. The district office where the public schools District Super visor
holds office is opposite the juban institute while the office of schools division super
intendent is alm0ost 25 kilometers from JNHS.

Its initial enrollment in school year 1999-2000 is 154,117 were first year and 37 were
second Year. There were three volunteer teachers and the first teacher in charge was then
Science coordinator, Mrs. Melinda Encela. Every Year thereafter, the enrollment increased.

With the Shuffling and reshuffling of school heads, different priorities were identified.
Every year, however, the needs for teachers , the classrooms and chairs are always the top
most problem.

This school year, its enrollment tremendously increased. From 870 last school year
2015-2016, it bloomed to 1203 this school year 2016-2017. The numbers of teachers
however, are not enough to cater the needs of the growing population. The first PTA school
building which housed 4 oversized classes is now closed to dilapidation but due to serious
need for classrooms, the school cannot afford to have them demolished.
In terms of performance, Juban National High School is now beginning to gain recognition.
With its 27 Plantilla –based faculty members, and 7 teachers included in the Plantilla of
Biriran national High School but are actually b teaching in JNHS, the school is constant
pursuit of providing quality service by providing the learners and the teachers an inspiring
learning and teaching environment.

CONTENT:
The story is about an 8-year-old boy named Ishaan who cannot cope with the academic demands in
school. He even finds it hard to read because the letters are moving or dancing. He also can’t write
correctly and his letters and numbers are sometimes inverted. He is then in danger to repeat his grade
level.
Because of his difficulties in school, his parents decided to move him to a new school that they expect to
help him. This made Ishaan depressed knowing his family disband him.
Out of the blue, a new teacher has arrived in their school that will help Ishaan find himself.
SUMMARY:
Ishaan Awasthi, an eight year old kid filled with joy and imagination is having a hard time with his life.
His parents are more focused in Ishaan’s brother who is much smarter. They just doesn’t seem to
appreciate Ishhan’s talent in creativity and art.
Ishaan is also having a hard time in coping up in school, he just can’t even read nor write. The letters he
see are moving and when he writes, his letters and numbers are sometimes inverted. Because of his
difficulties in school and family, he became depressed and confused.
His parents then decided to move him to a new school that will teach him better and far away from
home, which, they did not know that will make Ishaan more depressed. Ishaan is having a hard time
coping and adjusting and his only stress reliever is through painting.
Out of the blue, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a new art teacher came to the scene that defies traditionally
practiced teaching. He set his students on hype fire encouraging them to use their imagination.
He noticed Ishaan and his difficulties. He discovered that Ishaan’s mistakes are because that he has
dyslexia, a disorder that involves difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other
symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence. -google Nikumbh reminisced his past as he also has
the same problem as Ishaan before. He decided to help the kid.
While observing Ishaan, Nikumbh noticed the kid’s talent in art. He realized the kid’s potential. Nikumbh
came to visit Ishaan’s family and explained to them the kid’s problem why he is different. His parents
were ashamed of themselves not knowing their sons potential.
Nikumbh Helped the kid read and write properly. they made a great bond together
Nikumbh approached the school’s principal to have an event of painting to show the school that Ishaan
is not what they seem to think he is. On the event, Ishaan is faced off with different artist in school
icluding his very own mentor, Nikmubh.
When the decision came to who won the eyes and hearts of the judges. He is tied with his teacher
Nikumbh, but only one should be the winner. And that someone is no other than Ishaan himslef. He won
over his very own mentor which made him, Nikumbh, and his family very happy and proud.
Ishaan’s victory helps him find himself which made him a better person in school, family and
community. His grades became higher and personality improved and made him a very smart and happy
child.
The movie tells us that children are like stars on earth, they are all special in their own ways.
Ishaan Awasthi is an eight year-old boy who is suffering from dyslexia, a neurological
disorder. He is having a trouble recognizing letters, can hardly read and write. Letters and
numbers are written invertedly and words are commonly misspelled. He can not follow
multiple instructions and has poor motor skills. Being different from other normal growing
children, he is always thought to be dumb, idiot and lazy. His teachers, classmates,
neighbors and even his own family did not realize what he is going through.
In the boarding school where he was sent to be disciplined, his self confidence was shattered. He
suffered trauma due to separation from his family. His passion for drawing and painting was totally
gone.
Ishaan became so aloof, cold and indifferent from his classmates. This showed that the concept of “
trust “during his developmental years based on Erik Erikson’s of Psycho-social theory, was not attained
and established because of rejection of people around him.
Until Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a substitute art teacher came to school and able to recognize his special
needs. Ishaan’s other teachers thought that he has to be dealt in special education program not to be
placed in the mainstream. But, Ram insisted that even special child has the right to formal and quality
education as what the “ EFA”- Education for All Policy holds. Ram believes that every child has his own
capabilities, desires and pace of learning.
Ram helped Ishaan how to manage deficiencies brought about by being dyslexic. Ram was able to unveil
the potentials of Ishaan by employing educational psychology. Appropriate intervention measures like
constant practice, drills and problem solving were given to Ishaan. This confirms the theory of operant
conditioning by Frederick Skinner. A person can be trained by presenting a reward or punishment as a
consequence of his actions. Ishaan was stimulated and conditioned to learn because of the immaterial
reward of being accepted, cared, valued and loved by his teacher, Ram. This specific scene in the movie
had causedme to cry in the nth times and realize the goodness of one’s heart.
Ram understood Ishaan’s mental capacities and innate behavior because he went through the same
experience and struggles being dyslexic during his childhood days.
There should be social consciousness on individual differences. Even Ishaan’s parents, teachers and the
community were not aware of this particular kind of disorder. The society plays a vital role in child’s
development. Thus, it has to be sensitive and responsive especially for those who have special needs.
Criticisms and prejudices should be discouraged for the child to overcome his difficulties.
As a teacher, I realize that substantial knowledge about Psychology is indispensable tool in the field of
teaching profession. Every learner has its own pace of learning with different weaknesses. So, the
teacher has to be creative in employing teaching strategies to be able to cater the needs of every
learner.
The movie is indeed very good, appropriate and reflective as I journey more years of being a student.

INTRODUCTION

Field studies involve collecting data outside of an experimental or lab setting. This type of data
collection is most often done in natural settings or environments and can be done in a variety
of ways for various disciplines. Field studies are known to be expensive and timely; however,
the amount and diversity of the data collected can be invaluable.

Field studies collect original or unconventional data via face-to-face interviews, surveys, or
direct observation. This research technique is usually treated as an initial form of research
because the data collected is specific only to the purpose for which it was gathered. Therefore,
it is not applicable to the general public.

Field study 4(Exploring the Curriculum)

Wherein the students are able to explore and could get ideas out of what they saw in their
surroundings or in their environment. Reception Learning – learners are actively involved in
their on learning. ... Explain why teaching and learning give life and meaning to the curriculum.

Field Study 5 LEARNING ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES

allows the students to have hands-on experiences in selecting, constructing, and evaluating
conventional, authentic and alternative assessment tools used in the learning environment
based on the principles of testing.

Field Study 6 On Becoming A Teacher) is designed to complement the professional education

subject, the teaching profession. It relates real life experiences of a teacher as a person and as a
professional.
