Aims and Objective

This course aims at providing a basic knowledge of the hardware architecture of typical microprocessors,
microcomputers and microcontrollers, and to study how to interface various peripheral devices with applications.

Intended Learning Outcomes of the Course

On completion of the course, students should be able to

ILO1. describe the architectures and functions of peripheral subsystem of typical microprocessors and
microcontrollers;
ILO2. explain the operations of typical microprocessors and microcontrollers;
ILO3. design simple microcontrollers based system and interfacing circuits and common devices;
ILO4. develop simple programs for microcontrollers for various applications.

Syllabus

1. Introduction to Microprocessor, ,Microcomputer, and Microcontroller


l Organizational structure between Microprocessor, ,microcomputer, and microcontroller
l Development of microprocessor, ,microcomputer, and microcontroller
l Address bus, data bus and control bus,
l Connecting microprocessor to input/output devices,
l Peripheral interfacing.

2. Introduction to Microcontrollers
l Introduction to microcontrollers, hardware and its organization,
l Programming system,
l Architecture, memory organization, addressing modes,
l Registers, port, memory interfacing,
l Instruction set and assembly language programming.
l Timer and counter
l Interrupt
l Serial communication, input/output Interfacing between Microcontroller and peripheral devices,

3. System design using Microcontrollers and applications

l Fundamental of components for interfacing and applications
