Chapter 4 :
STRUCTURAL BEAMS :
ChspExample 1: cantilever beam :

Procedure:
1.preferances-strucutural
2.preprocessar
1. Element type-add-beam-2 node 188-ok
2. Mat. Properties-mat.model-strucrural-linear-elastic-
isotropic-put(EX-2e5.PRXY-0.3)
3.sections-beam-common section-sub type(rectangle)-
B=10,H=5-ok
4.modeling-
a.create-keypoints—in active cs-1point{keyponit -
1,(000)),apply (kepoint-2,(length,0,0)]ok.
b.line-click on 1 st and second points.ok.
5.meshing-mesh tool-line/global-mesh-division 10.
6.loads-apply-structural-
1. Displacement -click on key points 1–degree of
freedom.(use for fix supports)
2.force – apply- on keypoint 2-free end –ditrction(y axis)-
(-4000N)
7.solution-solve-current ls –ok

8.for deformation:
genral postprocesser-plot result-deformed shape-def
+dfeormed .

9.If you want to see digram of sf,bmd.

element table-define table-add-by sequence smic …
For shear force digram -5,18
For bm-2,15
Ben .stress 32,37.

10. If you want to see deformation ,stress, bending stress.

 Go to ,element table-define table-add-by sequence –
type smic, value ok-again repeat upto all points taken.
a.shear force- smic 6 and smic19
b. bending moment-smic3,smic16.
 plot results-contour plot-line element result-put smic
3,16 and 6,19 in other block for shear force and
bending force.
11. plot control-style-size and shape-on display of element –
see on oblique view.
12. plot result-contuor result-element-for von misses stress-
oblique plane.
13.plot control-animate.
14.for bm use query result-subgrid –dof-uy–cilck and and
check.(only useful for cross check)

Analytical solution:
Example 2: udl:

1. Same upto loads-define loads –displacement.

2. Preprocessor -loads-define load-apply-structural-pressure-on
beam-picked lines-put key.load =2,
3. i=-4000 j=-4000 – ok.
4. as load will be same in udl at every point.
5. solution-solve-current ls –ok and next procedure is same.

Example 3:uvl:

Note: only one division.

1. Same upto loads-define loads –displacement.
2. Preprocessor -loads-define load-apply-structural-pressure-on
beam-picked lines-put key.load =2,
3. i=0 j=-4000 – ok.
4. as load will be same in udl at every point.
5. solution-solve-current ls –ok and next procedure is same.

Example 4.trusses:

 Trusses,
 Preprocessor-element type-add-link-3d finite 180-add-ok.
 Real constant –add/edit-add-cs area-ok-close.
 Apply material same as last .but No need to define section .
 Modeling-create -node-in active cs-
a(0,0),b(40,0),c(40,30),d(0,30).
 Elements-auto numbered- through nodes-click and make
every member of truss.
 No need to do meshing.
 Note: for roller supports use uy as displacement.
 Apply force on node NOT on key points.
 Solve.
 General postprocessor-element table-define table -add--by
sequence no-ls-ls1-ok- update-close.
 Plot element table –ls1-do.not avg.result-ok.
 Line element table –ls1-ok.
Example 5:
Taper beam

 On tapered beam ,
o Preprocessor-beam-common section enter two sections .
o Preprocessor -tapered section-xyz location-beg. Point –id
1(0,0,0) coordinate -end id 2(100,0,0)-ok.make keypoint and
line from modeling.
o Meshing –size control-manual size-lines-picked lines-pick
all lines-no.of division.
o Mesh attribute-default attribute-section number -3.tapaered.
o Mesh –lines-click on line ok.
Example 6:inlined load on beam.
 Inclined load on simply supported beam ,
 same procedure upto meshing
 again go to modeling –create -node-rotate node cs-by
angle-click on load point.
 Z axis for anticlockwise 90-x,clockwise x-90.
 Apply load carefully by plot-lines .
 For simply supported load use displacement as
do not apply ROT Z and DOF as
load inclined at z axis.
 Then apply load.
These procedure is same for both inclined and taper beam.
8.genral postprocesser-plot result-deformed shape-def +dfeormed .
11. plot control-style-size and shape-on display of element – see on oblique
view.
12. plot result-contuor result-element-for von misses stress- oblique plane.
13. Line element –
a.shear force- smic 6 and smic19
b. bending moment-smic3,smic16. plot results-contour plot-line element
result-put as want…
14.plot control-animate.
15.for bm use query result-subgrid –dof-uy–cilck and and check.
