III. PROCEDURE

Teachers Activity Student Activity

A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer
Good morning class! Good morning sir!
Class, please stand and let us pray.
Our Father…..Amen Our Father…..Amen

2. Checking of Attendance
Class monitor, who is absent today? Sir, no one is absent today.
Very good!
3. Collecting and checking of
Assignment
Class, kindly pass your assignment to
the front silently (Student will pass the assignment silently)
4. Review
Before we formally start our lesson,
lets have first a review. To refresh
your knowledge about calculating the
mean of ungrouped data.

Directions: Calculate the mean of the

following grades obtained by Mr.
Bajado in his math subjects in college

98 92 98 93
97 92 98 98
94 98 88 94

Who is would like to answer?

Yes, miss Ty
𝑀𝑒𝑎𝑛 =S𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑠/𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓
d𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑠 (𝑛)
Mean= 98+97+94+…+94/12

Mean= 95

Very good!
Do you still have any clarification n
computing the mean of ungrouped
data?
None sir.
5. Motivation
Class, I will have here a picture.
What can you observe from the
picture?
(teacher will show the picture) Sir it’s a group of a happy family.

Yes, a group of a happy family.

Why do you think they have a happy
family? Sir because they love each other.
Yes, very good! Class in order to have
a family, a husband and wife should
have the same feelings in terms of
love and trust, because of these they
have create a group of a happy family.

6. Presentation
Class, our lesson for today is about
the mean of grouped data. But before
we proceed, let us read first our
objective for you to be guided as we
go along with our discussion.

Kindly read miss lucino. Objectives:

1. Enumerate the steps in calculating the
mean;
2. Solve for the mean of grouped data;
3. Describe the importance of the mean in
real life situation.
7. Discussion
Mean – the mean of grouped data
frequency distribution may be
obtained in almost the same way as
the mean of ungrouped data is
computed.

Here are the steps and formula in

solving mean of grouped data.

1. Find the midpoint on class mark

(Xm) of each class
2. Multiply the frequency and the
corresponding class mark. fXm
3. Find the sum of results in step 2.
Solve the mean using the formula.
x̄ =∑fXm/n
where:
x̄ = mean
f = frequency
Xm = class mark
N = sum of frequency

For example:
Calculate the mean of the mid
year scores of students in
mathematics.

Mid – year test scores of students

in math

Class frequency Xm fXm

interval
41-45 1 43 43
36-40 8 38 304
31-35 8 33 264
26-30 14 28 392
21-25 7 23 161
16-20 2 18 36
N=40 ∑fXm=
1,200

x̄ =∑fXm/n

x̄ = 1,200/40
mean = 57.25

8. Generalization
Again, Ms. Rosales what are the steps
in solving mean of grouped data?
The steps in solving mean of grouped data are:
1. find the midpoint or class mark of each
class.
2. Multiply the frequency and the
corresponding class mark.
3. Find the sum of the results in step 2.
4. Solve the mean using the formula.
Very good!

Mr. Laguidao, what is the formula in

solving mean of grouped data? x̄ =∑fXm/n

Very good

9. Application
This time we are going to have an
activity. I will group you into two
groups, the boys will be the group 1,
and the girls will be the group 2 each
group will do the same task. You have
only 5 minutes to do your task. The
group which can finish first the allotted
time, I will give a plus five for your quiz
later, and each group select a
representative to explain your answer.
Am I clear? Yes sir!

Your times start now. (the students do the activity)

Directions: calculate the mean for

grouped data.

Class Interval Frequency Class Frequency Class fXm

75-79 1 Interval mark
70-74 4 75-79 1 77 77
65-69 10 70-74 4 72 288
60-64 14 65-69 10 67 670
55-59 21 60-64 14 62 868
50-54 15 55-59 21 57 1,197
45-49 14 50-54 15 52 780
40-44 1 45-49 14 47 658
40-44 1 42 42
N=80 ∑fXm =
4,580

x̄ =∑fXm/n
= 4,580/80
mean = 57.2
Okay, guys 5 minutes is over. Please
select a representative to present your work in
front. (presenting their output)
Values integration
A while ago, we have discussed
about the mean of grouped data, as
one of the measures of central
tendencies.
We can associate the word central
to center. A center value of the data.
In connection to our lives class,
who is the center of your life?

Yes, Ms. Coso

The center of my is my family because
they are the ones who are always at my side in
times of happiness and sadness.
Who is would like to answer?

Yes, Mr. Labostro The center of life also is God because He is the
source of everything need in this world.

Very good!

IV. EVALUATION
Directions: Read, analyze and solve the
problem below.

The following is a distribution for the

number of employee’s in 40 companies
belonging to a certain industry. Calculate
the mean of grouped data below.

No. of No. of No. of No. of Class fXm

employee’s companies employee’s companies mark
14-20 1 14-20 1 17 17
21-27 3 21-27 3 24 72
28-34 6 28-34 6 31 186
35-41 11 35-41 11 38 418
42-48 8 42-48 8 45 360
49-55 7 49-55 7 52 364
56-62 4 56-62 4 59 236
n=40 ∑fXm =
1,653

x̄ =∑fXm/n

= 1,653/40

mean = 41.325

V. ASSIGNMENT
Directions: Read, analyze and solve the
problem below.

The distribution of hourly rates of 70

professors from different schools who
attended a convention is indicated the
mean for grouped data.
Hourly rate No. of
professors
2.00-27.45 12
27.50-34.95 18
35.00-42.45 11
42.50-49.95 9
50.00-57.45 8
57.00-64.95 6
65.00-72.45 3
72.50-79.95 3

That’s all today  
