TO BE USED ONLY FOR ALSIM ALX SIMULATOR ASSESSMENTS
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Dear Candidate,
We would like to congratulate you for being selected for an assessment with LOT Polish Airlines. This document will explain
all the details concerning simulator part of the selection process. Read it carefully before the screening date. Should any
questions arise, do not hesitate to ask your assessor before the session begins.
The assessment will take place at our LOT’s headquarters in Warsaw, KOR St. 43, around 20 minutes’ walk from Chopin
Airport. Have in mind that there is limited parking space available around the office. When in the building, wait at the
reception desk for the recruitment team member who will meet you at settled hour.
INTRODUCTION
The simulator assessment is the part of the selection process. The assessor will be checking if the applicant can demonstrate
the expected level of competence with regard to flying the aircraft and the ability to use CRM principles in areas of
situational awareness, leadership, team building, decision making and effective communication.
The simulator type used for the assessment will be Alsim ALX, a generic FNPT II MCC class device. As the assessment is built
around a non-type specific aircraft, there is no advantage to have any particular type of simulator assigned. The flight model
used will be Medium Jet, resembling a typical category C short-haul jet.
The candidate will be given a briefing incorporating equipment available in the simulator being used. It will also brief Thrust
Lever Settings and Pitch & Thrust settings as appropriate.
Flight Director (F/D), Autopilot (A/P) or Autothrust (A/T) will not be available during the session.
There will be two different scenarios available for the assessor to choose from. Other type will be briefed individually as
required.
FLAPS 1
The simulator assessment will be comprised of the following exercises: Take off, General handling, ILS approach, Go around,
Landing, Simple failure handling.
When acting as PF, the candidate must assume he is the commander of the aircraft.
The plane will be positioned at the threshold of the departure runway with engines running and all pre-departure checks
completed.
Once the sessions starts, the assessor will act as an air traffic controller, purser etc. All ATC instructions must be read back by
PM using standard R/T phraseology. Try to act in the simulator as if it was a real environment.
The operating procedures that crews will be expected to use are those detailed below. The procedures are deliberately
designed to be general and applicants will be expected to familiarize themselves with them prior to the assessment exercise.
Adoption of these procedures will be evaluated.
Checklists
The applicant will be expected to call for the following normal checklists.
Checklist Condition
Target pitch attitude will initially be around 15° nose up what should give a speed between V 2 and V2+10kts.
Acceleration altitude
AccA will be at 3000 ft AFE. When in clean configuration do not allow speed to increase above 210 knots. A significant
reduction of thrust may be required.
PF PM
Airplane on the advances thrust levers to reach 50%
runway N1 and checks proper engines Verifies that the N1 reached the
acceleration, target N1 and the engine
moves the thrust levers to TOGA parameters are normal
detent and calls “CHECK THRUST” “THRUST CHECKED”
At 80 knots “80 KNOTS”
“CHECKED”
At V1 “V1”
At VR “ROTATE”
rotates the airplane to reach
approximately 15° pitch up
Plane airborne checks positive rate of climb and
calls “POSITIVE RATE”
confirms positive rate of climb and
calls “GEAR UP”
At 1000 feet AFE “1000”
sets thrust levers to CLB detent and
calls “CLIMB POWER”
disconnects autothrust
At acceleration “ACCELERATION ALTITUDE”
altitude (3000 AFE) “SPEED 210 KNOTS”
Retracts flaps on “S” speed
Crossing transition “TRANSITION”
altitude “ALTIMETERS”
Both pilots set altimeters to standard
“AFTER TAKEOFF CHECKLIST”
Accomplishes the checklist and calls
“AFTER TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
COMPLETED”
Altitude callouts
Within 1000 ft of the assigned altitude PM will call “1000 TO LEVEL OFF”. At this stage it is required by applicant to reduce
Rate of Climb/Descent to 1000 feet per minute or less.
Approach briefing
The PF will be expected to perform a standard approach briefing.
Minimum manoeuvring speeds for given flap setting are listed below:
It is not allowed to fly below these speeds without flaps deployed at certain position. For example, if the speed reduction
below 160 kts is desired, it is necessary to have flaps at least at position 3.
Maximum, structural speeds for given flap setting are listed below:
The landing must be accomplished with flaps full. Vref speed will be 140 knots, Vapp 145 knots.
STABILIZATION CRITERIA
Flight path Configuration
precision approach – maximum deviation one dot, landing gear – down and locked,
non-precision approach – LOC, VOR, BC – one dot, NDB flaps – landing flaps, except circling,
- ±5° indicated airspeed - +10/-5 kts from calculated
visual approach – along desired flight path approach speed,
rate of descent – maximum 1000 ft/min
thrust – more than idle
Should you become destabilized or no visual references are obtained at minimums, a go-around procedure must be initiated.

Throttle quadrant
This introduction gives guidelines for use of the checklists during the assessment session.
The NC is organized by phase of flight. The NC is used to verify that critical items have been done. All checklists shall be called
out by PF and read by PM, using challenge-and-response method. The normal checklists are do-and-verify checklists. There
are just three in flight checklists:
After Takeoff,
Approach,
Before Landing.
The abnormal and emergency checklists should be treated as read-and-do checklists. While reading these checklists, PM
transfers radio communication to PF. All memory items, if present, are put inside a box and must be completed without
delay.
1.6. Hints
The plane is very sensitive in pitch axis, only minor deflections of control wheel are needed. Avoid the tendency to over
control the aircraft. As a typical jest it has also a tremendous amount of power, so use throttles gently and make use of
speed trend indications.
1.7. Debriefing
There will be no debriefing after session. The assessors will not provide any information regarding your performance during
the check ride.
1.8. Attachments
The following chapter contains attachments used during simulator assessment. These are Normal/Abnormal/Emergency
checklists and approach charts.
The set is obviously incomplete, but is found to be sufficient for the purpose of simulator assessment.
