Important Notice for 2019 GKS-G 2nd Round Successful Candidates

Dear Successful Candidates of the 2019 Global Korea Scholarship for Graduate Degrees,

Huge congratulations to you all for making it to the final round of the 2019 GKS-G.
We ask all the successful candidates of the 2nd round whose names are included in
the list to read and follow below instructions (number 1~4) thoroughly and take
appropriate measures in order to be considered for final admissions.

For ALL 2nd Round Successful Candidates:


All the successful candidates are asked to complete and submit the following two forms:

1. Medical Checkup (For ALL successful candidates of the 2nd round)

Congratulations on successfully passing the 2nd round of review. Each candidate must get
medical checkup from a licensed doctor or physician at a local hospital close to you. We will
only consider the medical check-up that has been taken after May 16th, 2019 valid.
Please print out the “Official Medical Examination” form and have it filled out and signed
by a doctor/ physician. Please send us the scanned files of the completed medical
examination form and the lab results to NIIED. Please note that you must submit the
“Official Medical Examination” form AND the laboratory evidence (result of your
examination) officially issued from the hospital or medical clinic.

2. Scanned Copy of Your Passport (For ALL successful candidates of the 2nd round)

All successful candidates of the 2nd round must submit their passport copies. Please only
submit the copy of your passport’s first page that contains personal information including
your photo and passport number. Make sure to save the scanned copy into a jpg format.
 How to submit (PLEASE FOLLOW BELOW INSTRUCTIONS STEP BY STEP):

- Make clear scanned copies of the Official Medical Examination form AND
the laboratory evidence and merge them into a single file.
Name the file into a following format: 2019 GKS-G-[EMB or UNI]-[Country]-
[Last Name]-Medical. (*EMB for embassy track applicants and UNI for
university track applicants*)
For example, a candidate named Sujin Park from Korea who applied through
embassy track must save the file as 2019 GKS-G-EMB-Korea-Park-Medical.
- Make a clear scanned copy of your passport’s first page that contains personal
information and your photo and passport number. Save the file into a jpg format.
Name the file into a following format: 2019 GKS-G-[EMB or UNI]-[Country]-
[Last Name]-Passport. (*EMB for embassy track applicants and UNI for
university track applicants*)
For example, a candidate named Sujin Park from Korea who applied through
university track must save the file as 2019 GKS-G-UNI-Korea-Park-Passport.

- Attention!!! Attach two files (both the medical and passport files) to a
single email and send it to us. The subject line of your email must be
2019 GKS-[EMB or UNI]-[Country]-[Last Name] and please do not include
any other words. Remember to submit the two files in a single email and
DO NOT send the files in multiple emails.

- Attention!!! The two documents must be submitted in either pdf or jpg file
format. We cannot open google drive, dropbox, or any internet-linked
files.

- Attention!!! In the subject line of your email, please do not include the
following words: document, submission, or confirmation. Any emails including
any of those words in the subject line will be automatically filtered.

any response to your inquiries regarding the program or application. Should you
have inquiries that require prompt response, please send an email to

3. Final Round: University Admissions (Only for Embassy Track Applicants)

NIIED will send the applications of the 2nd round successful candidates of the embassy track
to the universities for admissions, which is the final round of the selection. The three
universities that each applicant chose will conduct the screening for admission between May
17th and June 11th. Each university will then contact the candidates and inform the results to
NIIED by June 12th. If you do not get any notice from your chosen universities by June 12th,
you must contact the universities to check the result. During this period, pay close attention
to the emails and phone calls from Korea in case universities contact you asking for
additional documents.
Each candidate will hear from the university regarding the admission result by June 12st.
You will have to choose ONE university among those you are admitted to and notify your
final choice of university and major to NIIED no later than June 19th by submitting “2019
GKS-G University Final Choice” form.
Name the file into a following format: [2019 GKS-Final Choice-Country-Last Name]
The successful candidates of the final round will be decided and announced by NIIED
based on the medical checkup results, university admissions result, and the applicant’s final
choice of the university. If you do not get admission from any one of the three universities or
you fail to send your decision to NIIED by June 19th, you will not be selected as a GKS
scholar.

4. Korean Language Program

All 2019 GKS-G scholars who pass the final round will take the one-year mandatory Korean
language training at a Korean language institution. The language institution is announced
with the final result and will be written on the invitation letter that you will receive from NIIED.
Please note that it is NOT POSSIBLE to change the language institution.
Each scholar is assigned to a language institution based on one’s country of origin and
Korean language proficiency so that the diversity is represented in each institution.

*Exception: GKS scholars who hold valid TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be exempt from the
language program and start your degree program in September 2019.
If you have attained TOPIK level 5 or 6 after you have submitted your applications in
March or if you have already received TOPIK level 5 or 6 but did not report your scores to us,
please kindly inform us by submitting the scanned copy of your official certificate to
NIIED.
ATTN!! If you have already submitted your TOPIK score certificate at the time of applying
and if there is no change to your TOPIK level, you do not have to resend the score report.
