RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The study explored the genre of online games that grade 10 students play,

the name of the specific games and the number of hours the students spend playing

online a day. The researchers use a quantitative type of research in conducting the

study. A total of 58 students in 2 sections was selected to answer the survey. The

data gathered was conducted using a simple random sampling design and

interpreted in the following data and graphs below.

Population, Sample Size, and Sampling Technique

We used a convenience sample of 58 grade 10 students, 15 boys and 17 girls

from the section A, 9 boys and 17 girls from the section B. Our study used a

simple random sampling design. In this case each individual is chosen

entirely by chance and each member of the section has an equal chance,

or probability, of being selected.

Description of Respondents

The survey was completed by 58 grade 10 students. The respondents are

Filipino and English Journalism students of Lagro High School with age ranging from

14 to 17. The students selected are top performing academically. Every student

and voluntarily answer the questions anonymously.

Data-Gathering Procedure

The researchers made a letter for the approval to conduct the study at Lagro

High School that was then conducted at two sections in grade 10. The permit was

signed by their Statistics adviser and checked by the class presidents of each

section. The researchers made the use of survey to gather the data needed in the

study. The researchers administered the tests and questionnaire to the students

during their break time and take about 3-5 minutes. The students were assured of

confidentiality and that the data collected in the study would only be used for

research purposes.

SUMMARY

The study we’ve conducted shows that with 58 students with 24 male

respondents 34 female respondents shows that most of the respondents prefer

playing Multiplayer Online Battle Arena or MOBA in both Section A and B, wherein

games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang! League of Legends, Arena of Valor,

Clash of Clans, Heroes Arena are categorized. It is also evident in this study that

when combined, the game most of the respondents plays Mobile Legends followed

by League of Legends.

The second type is the First Person Shooting or FPS with games like Rules

of Survival or Cross Fire. As for Massive Online Role Playing Games, there are still4

respondents playing game like Ragnarok.

On the other hand, both section A and B, with 70% and 45% respectively on

playing for 3 hours or more, it can be seen that males play online games longer than

females.

To sum it up, we’ve found out that even performing students still play online

games and able to maintain their grades. Though there are different genre of games

they play, still the consistency is there.
