Grade Level: Grade 6 Time : 50 minutes

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the day, the pupils should be able to:
Demonstrate how energy is transformed into another form
Appreciate energy transformations
II. CONTENT:
a. ENERGY TRANSFORMATION
III. LEARNING RESOURCES:
a. References:
a. S6FE-IIId-f-2
b. The New Science Links 6 Revised edition 2017 pp.333-338

3. Class Rules
a. If someone is talking in front, everybody should listen.
b. If you want to answer raise your right hand.

B. Meeting
1. Review and Drill: What was our lesson last meeting?
Recall the different kinds of energy discussed.
Ask: Identify the forms of energy used by the following materials:
1. automobile 4. guitar
2. electric fan 5. Television set
3. electric flat iron

2. Motivation:

Let the pupils watch a short video clips on Energy Transformations

Ask: Can energy be converted from one form to another?
Video Showing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAVMCEpeTdI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8atIc3XixY

3. Presentation of the Lesson:

Present a diagram to illustrate energy transformation that occurs in a moving car.
Ask: Explain any changes

4. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

Activity 7.4
Investigating the Transformation of Energy

I. Problem: How is energy transformed to another form?

II. Materials: guitar, battery- operated toy, matches, candle or alcohol lamp
III. Procedures:
Observe how energy is transformed in the different objects when they work.
1. Light the candle
2. Pluck the string of the guitar
3. Place the battery in the battery- operated car
IV. Questions:
1. What form of energy is present in the candle?
2. How did this energy change to another form when the candle was lighted?
3. How is energy changed when you pluck the strings of guitar?
4. What form of energy is present in the battery?
5. How is this energy changed when it is placed in a toy car?
V. Conclusion:
______________________________________________________________.
5. Developing Mastery:
Analyze and discuss the outputs of the learners about their observations on ”energy
transformation”

6. Finding Practical applications of concept and skills in daily living:

Ask learners to cite some examples of home appliances.
Tell them to make a diagram for each appliance illustrating the transformation of energy
that takes place.

7. Making generalization and abstraction about the lesson:

How can you show that energy can be changed from one form to another?

8. Evaluating learning:
1. According to the Law of Conservation of Energy, energy cannot be _________ or
____________.
destroyed, destroyed
created, saved
created, destroyed
lost, found

2. What is energy changing from one form to another?

energy conservation
energy transformation
energy creation
mechanical energy

4. Which energy conversion is taking place when you put gasoline in a car?

thermal -> electrical

mechanical -> electrical
chemical -> mechanical
mechanical -> electromagnetic

6. When you eat pizza, Chemical Energy is transferred to _____ Energy.

Solar
Electrical
Mechanical
Chemical
