CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
In our daily lives we do a lot of activities. From each of these activities, can be told to
others. In telling them there are various ways of delivering them, one of them using text.
In this 2103 curriculum, the procedural text becomes mandatory material that is taught for
11th grade high school. To fulfill this task, we made a paper on Text Procedures.

B. Problem Formulation
Based on the background above, the formulation of the problem is as follows:
1. What is the procedure text?
2. What are the general structures of the procedure text?
3. What is the purpose of the procedure text?
4. What is the linguistic characteristic of the procedure text?

C. Purpose
This writing aims to:
1. Meet the duties of English subjects.
2. Knowing the meaning of the procedure text.
3. Know the structure of the procedure text.
4. Knowing the purpose of the procedure text.
5. Knowing the linguistic characteristics of the procedure text.
6. Can make examples of procedure text.

THEORY AND DISCUSSION

A. Definition of Procedure Text


There are three definition about procedure text :
1. Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation
manuals, e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier,
the fax.
2. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity, e.g. recipes, rules for games,
science experiments, road safety rules.
3. Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed.
B. Generic Structure of Procedure Text
1. Aim or Goal : (e.g : How to make spaghetti)
2. Material or Ingredient : (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion, vegetable
oil, etc. )
3. Step : (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, ..., second cut the onions becomes slice.)
C. Purpose of Procedure Text
To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of
actions or steps.
To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something
D. Languange Feature of Procedure Text
1. Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the
last)
2. Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the onion. . .,
wash the tomatoes. . . )
3. Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for
example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
4. Using action verbs, e.g : make, take, boil, cook
5. Using Simple Present Tense
E. Examples of Procedure Text
How To Make Email
E-mail or email is text messages that may contain files, images, or other attachments
sent through a network to a specified individual or group of individuals. The first e-mail was
sent by Ray Tomlinson in 1971. Now, you can make email.
Materials:
- laptop - modem
Step:
1. Visit a website that offers an email service. Usually are yahoo.com, google.com, and
hotmail.com.
2. Find where to sign up. Usually, there is a small link image or text that says "register" or
"sign up," although you may have to go to the login page to find this.
3. Follow all the instructions on the page, filling out all the needed details.

4. Read over the service agreement and click the box saying that you agree to abide by the
email system's rules. Once completed, click on the Submit or Enter button at the bottom
of the screen.
5. Email has been created. Continue on to import your contacts, message with friends, or
write emails, plus much more.

3. Open your browser
4. Type the address of 4shared in the address bar (4shared.com) then click enter
5. After that, the 4shared website will display andtype the title of te song that you want
to download in search box, then click enter
6. It will display some songs, choose one, then click the title
7. The link will open a new tab automatically, the click the “download now” box
8. You have to wait for a ffew seconds or minutes to see your download link
9. After you download link appear, click it
10. Then your download will start, and upon complication, thesong will automatically
save in your PC or laptop

CONCLUSION

A. Conclusion
The conclusion of this writing is:
1. Procedure text is a text that contains a text or series of actions or steps in making an item
or activity
2. Generic Structure of procedure text are aim or goal, material, and steps.
3. Procedure text to describe how to make something through asequence of actions or steps.
4. Procedure text usually focus of generalized human agent, use mainly action processes,
simple present tense, imperative sentences, and use of temporal conjuctions.

B. Suggest
We are as writer want to apology for the shortage of this paper. We know that this paper
is still far from perfect. So that we need the suggestion from the readers for the perfection of
this paper.
