Job Summary and Scope of Responsibilities

MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Supervises drilling personnel and contractors in the execution of drilling programmes, ensuring that all
objectives are met in a safe and efficient manner and in keeping with all regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Oversees the execution of all operational programmes and takes complete responsibility on assigned rig
covering - drilling, workover, well completion, and related activities.
2. Conducts detailed observation and inspection of activities on site and translates into operational activities
on receiving detailed programmes from Supervisor.
3. Reviews programmes considering work progress, proposes and implements minor amendments to
approved programmes in light of unforeseen operations requirements.
4. Supervises and controls the activities of personnel involved in the provision of technical services
/operations.
5. Investigates required supplies, orders materials /equipment from stores.
6. Controls and ensures the economics consumption and safe utilization of supplied materials and
equipment.
7. Ensures safe return of equipment and surplus materials to stores upon completion of related operations.
8. Prepares the daily progress report including the daily rig operating cost and supply/acid boats activities at
rig site.
9. Handles all emergencies encountered during normal operations of rig moves as per Company established
policy.
10. Reports and investigates incidents/accidents and makes necessary recommendations for improvement.
HSE Awareness
11. Ensures safety and environmental performance of all drilling related operations by implementing
and maintaining HSE programs.
12. Conducts risk assessments and prepares special procedures for non-routine operations and
activities.
Leadership
13. Provides strategic leadership and planning capability to the drilling team by setting individual goals,
managing performance, developing and motivating staff, provision of formal and informal feedback and
appraisal to maximize subordinate and departmental performance.

Budget Control
14. Controls expenditure and ensures that the variances between approved budget and actual expenditure
are properly justified.
Reporting and Relationships Management
15. Maintains and exhibits excellent working relationships with company staff.
Continuous Improvement of Position
16. Keeps abreast of new development in drilling techniques and ensures that subordinates are provided
with such information to improve work effectiveness and efficiency.

Minimum Professional Experience Required

A minimum of 12 years actual drilling experience

Minimum Educational, Technical Qualifications/Certifications Required

Bachelor degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering

Specific Requirements and Conditions

Industry training in drilling technology and Middle East experience
