Oh!

Rubber-ific
What is this about: This activity will show you the relationship between mass, force and
acceleration

What do you need:

 A box made up of cardboard
 Rubber band
 Marbles
 Improvised ramp
 Timer

PART I. Mass and Acceleration (for groups 1 and 3)

What to do:
1. Put the empty box at the 1st marked position on the ramp
2. Place five marbles inside the box (set-up A)
3. Suspend the rubber band at the back of the box
4. Release the box and record the time it travelled until it stops
5. Mark the place where the box stops and measure the displacement it covers.
6. This time, place 10 marbles inside the box (set-up B)
7. Repeat steps no. 3 to 5
8. Record your data in the data table below:

SET-UP TIME DISPLACEMENT VELOCITY ACCELERATION

9. Calculate the velocity and acceleration

Guide Questions:
1. What set-up takes longer time to travel?
2. What set-up reaches the farther distance/displacement?
3. What set-up accelerates fast?
4. How will you relate the mass to the acceleration of the box?
