Lesson

Good morning, Class. Good morning, Sir!

Please be seated. Thank you, Sir.

May I ask the attendance officer to get this (Attendance officer checks the attendance.)
attendance sheet and mark those who are absent
today.

Before proceeding to our new topic for today, may we Functions of communication, Sir .
review our lesson last meeting. What was it again?

That’s right. Last meeting, we dealt with “The

Functions of Communication”. So, if you can still Communication functions refer to how people use
remember, what does “communication function” language for different purposes.
refer to?

Very well said. In other words, communication Regulation and control

functions refer to the purposes of the speakers in Social interaction
communicating. So finally, what are the functions of Motivation
communication that we learned? Information
Emotional Expression

Okay just to let you apply these communication

functions. May I ask the following questions that
require practical answers.

1. How do you usually greet a friend, or anybody? Hello friend? How are you?

2. What function of communication do you use when Social interaction

you do so?

3. Supposed you were to tell your classmates the Trees provide oxygen which all living things
importance of trees in our environment, what including humans need to survive, so do not cut
information will you tell them and how do you trees; instead, we should preserve them and
urge them to preserve trees and plant more? plant more.

4. What a bright idea! What functions of Information and control, Sir

communication were used there?

5. Now, supposed you were to inform other people Ilagan City has beautiful attractions like the
what beautiful attractions Ilagan has, what are you Japanese Tunnel, The Sanctuary, and it is
going to tell them and how do you encourage them known as the home of the world biggest butaka
to visit Ilagan? so come and visit Ilagan for you to see how
beautiful Ilagan is.

6. Wonderful idea. What functions of communication Information and motivation, Sir

were used there?

You are all very good class! You are now ready for the
next lesson.

2
B. MOTIVATION

ACTIVITY: NAME THAT SONG

Do you want to have a game? May I group you into

three.
Students to be in their respective groups.

The name of our game is NAME THAT SONG. Please Assign one member of your group to be your ACTOR
look at the screen for the mechanics of the game. May PLAYER who is good at acting, your ILLUSTRATOR
I ask you to do leap reading as you read the PLAYER who is good at drawing, and your SINGER
mechanics. PLAYER who is good at singing and song lyrics.

The game consists of two rounds.

In the first round, the actor player will act out the
song title without mouthing and for 10 seconds, the
members will guess the song title for two points. In
the second round, the illustrator player will draw an
object that represents the missing word on the board
which will serve as a clue for their group members
to guess the song title for 15 seconds to get three
points. When the group guesses the song title
correctly, the SINGER PLAYER who is familiar with
the song lyrics and the tune of the song shall sing
the line where the title is mentioned for additional
two points in the first round, and three points in the
second round. If the song title could not be guessed
within the allotted time, the other groups will be
given the chance to steal. The group to clap their
hands first will be called to steal. The group that can
guess the title correctly will only be the one entitled
to sing the lyrics.

So after having known the game mechanics, what is 10, sir.

the perfect score that you can get in this game?

How did you get 10? In the first round, two plus two equals four.
In the second round, three plus three is six.
So, four plus six is 10.

By the way, just to give you an idea, the song titles

that you are to guess use the pronouns in both the
first person and second person singular.

So to recall your basic grammar, what are the I, me, mine, my, myself
pronouns in the first person?

Very good. What about those in the second person? You, your, yours, yourself
What are they?

How does a phrase differ from a sentence A sentence expresses a complete thought; a phrase
does not.

GAME PROPER

The song being guessed are as follows:

All by Myself Love Yourself

All of Me You are my Sunshine
Your Love I will Survive
Your Song I don’t Care

3
After the game: Students will classify the song titles.
Now class I have here metacards where the song
titles you’ve guessed are written. What I want you to
do is to classify them into two. You put them under
the Column WITHIN if you think the thought
focuses on one’s self or just within the speaker.

Then you put the song title under the Column

BETWEEN if the thought requires someone to
receive it or it needs to be told to another person.

The teacher checks the answers of the students.

Let me ask you, from those that you have put under I tried saying “ I will survive” when I got failing grade
Column WITHIN have you tried telling any of these in one of my subjects
lines to yourself especially when you are alone? What
was that instance?

What about the ones in Column BETWEEN? Anyone I told my girlfriend/boyfriend one time “You are my
of you who has tried telling any of these to somebody? sunshine.”

So what prefix means WITHIN? Intra, Sir

What type of communication occurs when you talk to Intrapersonal communication

yourself?

What prefix means “between” Inter, Sir

What type of communication occurs when there are Interpersonal communication

two or more people involved?

So, having said those what do you think is our lesson Yes Sir, it intrapersonal and interpersonal

but in most cases, we communicate with others. How

the speaker acts both as the sender and the receiver

Interpersonal communication refers to

type of speech context?
them.

Class discussions
Can you give me instances in which interpersonal Meeting of class officers
communication occurs? Ordering food in a restaurant
Buying a certain product in a store
Chatty conversations with friends and classmates

There are two types of interpersonal communication Dyadic and small-group communication, Sir
according to the number of people involved as the
listener/s. What are they?

When does dyadic communication occur? Dyadic communication occurs between two people.

When does small group communication occur? Small group communication occurs when there are at
least three but not more than twelve people engaging
in a face -to-face interaction to achieve a desired goal.

Which of these two types of interpersonal

communication do you do most of the time? I am more into small group discussion since most of
the time when I’m in school, I’m with friends,
classmates, and teachers, and when I’m home I
